I would like to improve throws without going for bigger head. My 623 is using KD SMO, i find it hard to get it to tight focus. i can get a good focus using Osram IRC bulbs maybe because its fillament is vertical while 623 is horisontal. What gives the best focus for 623 bulbs or any horizontal filament bulbs?

thanks.

It's not so much a question of "which gives the best focus", but which gives the best quality beam. Although it will throw the farthest with the SMO reflector the beam will be full of artifacts.

Although the 623 driven to at least 14.4V does well at overcoming its lack of focus with a SMO reflector, due to sheer output, it will never appear as smooth as with a textured reflector. Going to a larger reflector can go even further to improving beam quality but of course there is a limit, not to mention that you're trying to avoid a larger reflector.

A MOP will throw a smooth, oval shaped beam with the 623 and gets rid of nearly all the artifacts.
