I have an aluminum light that has some black paint on the inside & outside of the threads. I would appreciate suggestions on removing this paint. Thank you.

You can try carefully running a pitch gauge of the correct pitch on the threads. The correct size tap or die would work too.

Are you sure it's not anodizing?

Check with a voltmeter for continuity to verify if it's anodizing or paint.

If it's really is just paint then stuff like WD40/paint thinner/acetone/MEK will take care of it.

I listed them in the order of strength and volatility.

I have stripped down a lot of old tinplate trains, these were enamel paint. I got some paint remover from Home Depot and stripped them, I used a brass brush to clean up the gunk after. paint remover is good if you are going to strip the entire object - it's messy.
