My batteries are getting weak and won't hold charge anymore.
Before I buy the replacement battery I would like to know is there any LED mod for this model and how to make my own stick to improve the runtime
TIA

No mods available, imho
but the 9N could feature enough room to fit led and driver into.
You would have to make something like the normal LA out of aluminium, have the led sit up and fit through the hole (which might have to be widened), make room at back for the driver, mount everything in direct contact to light head --> heat transfer
.
.
.
much work, I never dared to mod my 9N like that - for complexity rasons
(and I have done quite some mods which I thought were complex)

Battery Stick: easy
* get a 7.2 V Battery pack, if possible one where the 2 "row"s of cells are mounted directly to each other
(no metal bands between cells visible),
* cut the 2 rows apart,
* somehow make the sticks to become sticks (soldering/glueing the cells together)
* check correct lenght and bend positive contact wide enough, then solder it
* mount negative contact (is that needed for 9N? Did that to make the sticks work with 8X)
* shrink wrap sticks

No LED mods, but why would you want one? That's basically the holy grail of incandescents right there.

Hey yellow,

Here is a dumb question for you: where do you get the "shrink wrap" for the battery sticks?
I've searched over and over, all I come up with is regular shrink wrap for electrical connections. This is too thick for what I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THX

the black/grey is standard kind,
the yellow some special kind, extra thin. I think something like "shrinking rate" 1:3 was the special there.
Got both at a local Shop for electronic parts.

Try to get one, that just barely fits over. something like 26 mm inside diameter, or so. That will not get too thick when shrinked.
and try with original shrink of the cells removed - watch not to tilt the stick: shorts!!! -
put one strip of adhesive tape alongside over the whole stick to isolate cell metal from negative contact.
shrink it

PS: since I modded my 6P to 18650, Flupic driver and an XR-E P4, some 3 years ago, my 8X and 9N became shelf queens
(instead of the 6P which had that job b4 because of the expensive, non-rechargeable batteries).
Sure, the 9N is the best incan ever produced - extreme size/output/value ratio, rechargeable, two outputs - but ...
Even with these 1 hour 25 mins battery runtime sticks (for the 9N), they are not equal.
(and in short the 6P will house an XP-G)[
