Should I get a MicroFire 10W HID?

The MicroFire 10W HID (T503) is rated @ around 500 lumens, priced at $338~
While some LED lights claims to have similar output.....does it worth to invest on a 10W HID?

The current LED light I have are the NiteCore's Extreme, EX10, D10 and SF E2DL, and I'm expecting way more throw from HID lights (for less than $500).

I wouldn't personally purchase that light because I believe there are two much better options. The first is the Jil Lite EzNite 10W with WA components, the other is a Mac's Customs which he's also making in 14W now. Both of which are using WA components. Mac's lights are not always available but if you keep an eye out you can purchase one when he makes another batch of them. You can also keep an eye on the Custom & Mods B/S/T area of the forums since they come up for sale at times.

500 lumens?

you could get a 3 cell mag and direct drive a SSC P7 all for less than $100 and get more than that.

but i guess if you are set on HID...

From the sounds of it he may have been looking for more throw which the P7 cant provide. Mac's 14W will give the best of both worlds with more lumens & throw.

Sounds somewhat repetitive, but wouldn't the N30 or L35 do the trick? The N30 costs less than that MicroFire and the L35 would be about the same price.

Of course you could always add a couple more bucks and get one of the last PH50's.:D

I'm guessing that he was looking for something more compact since he didn't inquire about the 24W & 35W Microfires.

I like the size of the T503. It might get a little tricky getting an N30 into your pocket. But then again, we at CPF all have deep pockets,, ,, don't we? Ha! Mac's, and EzNite lights are are nice lookers, and also small.

Oh! I re-read his post now. I think my brain emphasized on HID more than MicroFire. Especially when I even wrote Microfire in my previous post...:sigh:

When I see "HID" I just always think it is not pocket friendly.

The only "small" HID i would think of would be the smallest AE Lights. But again, I think the smallest is about twice as long as the T503 with AE Light being 292mm vs T503 at 142mm.

I've always wondered about the value between the microfire HIDs and that of the surefire M6 with some additional components:D

HID's have a startup time, require additional space for ballast, and the HID CCT may not be the most natural of tints
xenon incandescent usually eliminates most of these issues

Thanks for the help. Played with my neighbor's 10/35W HIDs last night. I was a bit disappointed with the little guy......guess I have to stay with LEDs for compact lights.

A DBS V2 has better throw and costs less. So does a Spear, a A9 Tiablo... you get the idea. Was looking at that light as well until I had a kind person who had one do the test for me. Went with a K2000R used, actually two of them, on CPFMP. Now those throw and cost less used than the MicroFire 10W.
