i'm looking to give 2 flashlights as gifts but i'm not sure what's the best for the money($20each). i prefer single AA as it would be easier to find the battery and easier for carry.
i prefer it make about 50 lumens or more.
any recommendations?

so far these have caught my eye but maybe i'm missing something better.

great suggestion.:D

might as well get one for my wife at that price, who will most likely lose it or not even use it. :shakehead

It's nice to see a departure from the Elly light for DX's entry-level Cree flashlight. The Simply Cree is much more compact and convenient looking, rather than having that massive "turbo" head on it. DX also has the best price on actual Cree stars of anyone too -- $6 shipped for 1, $25 shipped for 5 (listed as a separate item), if you wanted to upgrade any lights yourself.

Hi f22shift,

Not sure the first one is a 1xAA.

I just received the MTE 1XAA SSC and it's a real little gem for this price. It's really bright, well built and not far from top 1xAA Cree/SSC flashlights.

Can't comment on the Ultra C3, it is the next on my list. Hope they will release a natural HAII with a glow in the dark button edition.:twothumbs

Sounds like a good light for the money. Has anyone done a review or a runtime?

Low output quoted.

1,000 lux 1 metre.

Less than standard Elly, much less than Cree'd Elly.

All quoted figures.

Remember to get some nice gift boxes for stuff you're gonna get from DX of KD. It's not very nice to give someone a dift that comes in bubble wrap :p

They are very good stuff though, can't beat that price : performance ratio! :)

new one at DX for less than $9 DX ($8 each for 3) Simply Cree AA $9 Flashlight .
I have the <$5 generic LED version of this light, just received from DX. The "Simply Cree" seems to be same in the pics, except for the cree emitter upgrade.

Although the body is an apparent knock-off of the Ultrafire C3 body style, the generic LED version of this light is much lighter than the ultrafire, with much cheaper construction. Seems to be the same quality as the <$5 Powerlight generic LED models DX also sells.

Output of the stock generic version is less than the stock Elly. I've moded both, and the Elly mod results in much greater throw and overall output than these Powerlight-type mods (due to the bigger reflector and better driver, I expect). However, the Powerlight-type typically have longer runtimes than the Ellys.

Certainly an excellent price. But I expect you get what you pay for in the difference between this ~$9 light, and the new ~$14 new "enhanced" Cree light: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1892, which seems to be a step up from the moded Ellys (i.e. glass lens, alumuminum reflector, and the $15 Kai version is supposedly regulated - not sure about the DX one).

Hmmmm....... I do hate going over budget... but...... for $26 you could have something REALLY nice, and ultimately far more useful :

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2095

I've had one in my pocket day and night for several months... and it still looks new. 3 light levels are far better than one, letting you tailor the level to your immediate use, for instance... try reading a map or doing something up close with a single level really bright light. And ....you get strobe and SOS too.

It also has a GREAT looking beam pattern.... and the user interface is wonderfully simple, with it coming on in the middle mode, which I find perfect for 90% of my needs.

Better sell him yours then its out of stock ;)

yeah i was looking at the jet and the dex. those are something i would get myself:sssh: but i already have an edc.

i dont want to get something fancy for people who wouldn't appreciate it. :nana:

as long as these cheapies are around 50 lumens give or take it'll be fine or non-flashaholics.

Hmmmm....... you're probably right. However, I started to use that logic in getting a light for my sister's last birthday (she's a non light person), but it happened to be just when the P1D CE was first coming out, so I decided to give her something state of the art..... and not only did she love it, but all her friends.... including EMTs..... were blown away, and wanted one too.

Never underestimate the power of converting some one to the dark.... er....... light side. :grin2:

But seriously.... your's IS the sensible approach. I'll be interested to see what you end up getting.

well the low "1000lux at 1m" could be explained by it having such a shallow reflector...generally the deeper it is the further it throws...so it probly has a fairly wide spill by the looks of it...

Ive got the MTE seoul light and the ultrafire C3...i originally got the MTE to replace my Fenix L1P but the quality wasnt so great and it also didnt work so well(the light cuts out on my NiMH when the outputs still at 60-70%) so then i got the ultrafire C3 and it looks nice, feels solid and works great and it also comes with a holster
