I am thinking about replacing the LE for a more powerful one. I want to be able to just unscrew the existing and screw in the new one and swap back and forth. Any recommendations?

The sundrop head was designed for the high CRI Nichia emitter it is hosting, which is a low profile emitter.

Whatever you are considering, you need to make sure the LE will fit in there with no contact between the emitter and front lens. I'm pretty sure any LE hosting a XR-E, P4, P7, SST-50/90 will not fit since all these LED are tall.

What he said. Unless of course you have a SD XR-U, where the LED has more room and can thus be taller.

A worthy upgrade for the original SD would be the next generation Nichia 083 LED, but it is almost a philosophical question of the increase in flux is worth the effort right now.

Depends what you want to accomplish- Higher CRI/ better color rendition is probably not an area where an upgrade is viable, the stock LE rocks! Fantastic inside at night or wherever discerning between colors is important. Soft spot light is very pleasing to the eyes! The Haiku LE is great for some more lumens at the expense of the already mentioned advantages of the stock LE. Another avenue for lots of light is a Flupic P7 that I had from another project, at the expense of runtime and heat. But BOY, does it put a ball of light out there on High!!! :grin2:
