Our bedroom was around the lit room, just below and left of the vertical beam.

(That was me trying out my new P3D !!)

Great views of the strip, and airport, and mountains.

I've thought of another "downside".

We are so sad, now when we watch CSI, we look out for aerials of our hotel, the Luxor !!

It's kind of interesting to watch that array fire up. Many color shifts, some flickering, and then it slowly gets up to the "Whoa!" stage. :grin2:

A Cirque Du Soleil performance.

Hula Hoops

Empath stole my answer! :D

A variety of different Cirque shows all over Vegas. An awesome experience.

Hungry? Avoid the Fast Food places. Ironically, the All-You-Can-Eat buffets are cheaper and have fresher foods. Circus Circus has three huge rooms, just for the food!

If you want to check out the Freemont Street Experience, be careful. It's not exactly located in what you'd describe as a "safe" part of Vegas.

I went this past September. Wife and I went to the Grand Canyon on a bus tour. Frickin great. That is definitely a "must see" if you can get the time. The tour was a whole day.

You have to go to Fremont Street too. See some of the original casinos. They have this huge lit up ceiling above Fremont. The ceiling plays music videos.

Instead of the pink jeep tour, there is another tour guide who runs nothing but H1 Hummers. Do they do more jeeping?? I don't have any comparison info, but we got to experience the crawling and climbing capabilities of the H1. http://www.vegashummertours.com/

I did the tour in April, and it was a lot of fun. IF your girlfriend is more outdoorsy then there are also ATV rental and tour operations.

I guess I'm luckly that I live in Vegas seeing that most like it here. Beatles Love at the Mirage = Great Show.

Red Rock Canyon is a great place for outdoors activity. I ride the loop out there every morning on my MTB, cold but fun.....

As far as the GUN STORES here in town go, I would advise all to take steer clear of "The Gun Store" on east Tropicana and "American Shooters" off of Flamingo and Arville.

This is just based on personal dealings with them........They strive to sell the "Come Shoot Are Full Auto Machine Guns" but for 30 rounds out AR which will last about three seconds you will spend $20.00 for Range fess including Eye's & Ears and then $30.00 for ammo. A little to pricy in my opinion.

Shark Reef = Great time good stuff there for the price.

Ruth's Chris Steak House on Flamingo just west of the Palms = Great Steak and Seafood.

Any Cirque De Soleil show = Great time......."O" is my favorite.

La Reve at the Wynn is a great show also, a little different but still good. A mix of water and art good stuff. My sister works there so I get hooked up

Any of the comedy shows, even the small ones are great. They give you two free drink tickets and they last a few hours, well worth the money.

Helicopter rides over the Grand Canyon as mentioned already is a great experience.

Indoor sky diving.............:twothumbs pretty damn fun.

Ok, need to head to work now but if you have any questions about anything here in Vegas I most likley can help, I have been here for the past 15 years except when I was in the Military so let me know.

I will keep checking this thread.......

Maybe I need to have a Vegas CPF get toghter.........hhhhmmmmmm maybe in the future.

I have to agree with that statement. Downtown Vegas, while our Mayor will tell you it is as safe as can be, many of my LEO friends will tell you a different story.

The FSE, is located near some of lowest income houses, gang ridden areas and it is just a saturated area of criminal activity. Pick pockets are the least of your concerns in that area.

I have been on plenty of ride-a-longs with friends in the Down Town Area Command (DTAC) and South Central Area Command (SCAC) and have been on plenty in other areas of town.

Down town and South central you always have the minor to major drug calls, gang crimes, rape, shootings, stabbings, child abuse and neglect etc.

In other areas of town you do not go on those type of calls as much but in South West Area Command (SWAC) our lastest hot spot, you get the home invasions, domestic violence, beer skips and so on.

Of course anywhere you go there will always be problems but you do your self a service by avoiding the hot spot crime areas and FSE/Downtown is a hotspot.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm really looking forward to this trip!

Djblank87: Thanks for the heads up on the sketchy parts of town. I've heard bad things about the pickpockets at FSE, so I'll keep my guard up.
Are there any ranges that you would recommend? Is Discount Firearms any good?

Yep, those are my favorite guys in town, Discount Firearms. They do charge an arm and leg for shooting fully automatics just like everyone else but to fire any other weapons they always have lower prices.

I have bought over 12 weapons from them, Mike the owner/soon to be former owner is a great guy and nice as can be.

I do not want to stray you away from the FSE but you just have to be careful is all, stay in the main areas and do not go into any alleys or side streets and you should be ok. Unless you want the pimp, hookers and dealers to bug the hell out of you. :sick2:

If you want to go into any alleys bring :xyxgun:. The Meth problem is bad here and for the home-less people in town seem to always be on it. :thumbsdow But all in all you should have a safe trip while your here. Vegas is a great town and Metro's presence on the strip is heavy so not to worry.

Just remembered, there's a Fry's Electronics at the south end of the strip (south of Mandalay Bay if I recall). It's the only discount chain where you can buy a book, an album, a washing machine or an oscilloscope under the same roof!

So my girlfriend and I are hitting up Las Vegas in three weeks.

From personal experience, I can vouch that absolutely no good will come from a visit to the Chapel of Love. In the long run, gambling, plus the HUMVEE, helicopter and machine gun tours will be far cheaper than a visit to Reverend Fred.

I used to work in Vegas for weeks at a time, so I learned to listen to the locals, they know! Hoover Dam is always fun, we also hiked around Red Rock. We used to go to the Rio for their seafood buffet (they had all you can eat lobser), they had two different buffets! Remember, better deals on weekdays (mon-thur).

I used to go to every Casino and save a chip from each one. Also you get better playing odds away from the strip and it's not as crowded but not as fancy either. Old Vegas is cool take lots of pictures and enjoy yourselves :)

We are heading over on a Tuesday and staying till Saturday evening. Its crazy how much the price of the hotels jump on Friday! So with that in mind, we are hoping to cram in some cheap food/show/entertainment Tuesday-Thursday and save Friday/Sat for touring the Strip (which is free of course :)).

Appreciate the input! Really looking forward to the trip.

We (Dad and I) were there for MY first time in November of '01 (flying was a hoot - NOT).

The most awesome thing I saw there was the FSE. They did a tribute to 911 and you would have BELIEVED that F16s came down that street!

We stayed at a cheapy down near the Circus Circus. It has probably been replaced by now. But we got to know a couple dealers and had a good time. The Hoover Damn was all but closed.

There was so much that I can't remember it all, and I REALLY want to go back!

Circus-Circus is my usual haunt when I go there. It's cheap, clean and a short walk from the Convention Center (I'm usually there for trade shows).

BTW, they've since re-done the FSE canopy in LEDs. I remember they used to have a guy on-hand to change out burned-out bulbs when they were incandescents.

I didn't see "Blue Man Group" mentioned...they've got a show in Vegas don't they?

I saw the link that Empath posted and thought, "Oh another hula hoop show"...WRONG! What flexibility!!!! Very nice performance!!

Definitely catch the Grand Canyon if you can, but I don't think you're going to have enough time to "do it all"!!
