Heads are the same size. You can usually find the upgrade kits on Ebay for slightly less than a store would sell them for.

Is it worth it? You'll get a longer throw light, but it's not brighter than a regular Stinger.

Has anyone hear upgraded their Streamlight Stinger to a Stinger HP? Is it worthwhile? Who has these kits available at a good price?

One other question. Is the Stinger HP head the same size as the UltraStinger? The reason I ask is because I may also get a traffic wand and I would like to be able to use it one either the HP or the US.

I upgraded my SL StingerXT to an HP. I was very disappointed.

This topic was discussed a few times before. I would provide a link, but I can't seem to get the @@#$$%^ link to work.

Perhaps one of the more computer literate members here can do it ...

I didn't think it was worth the money, and quite a few members with the upgrade agreed with me. However, other members expressed satisfaction with their upgrades. One of those coin toss decisions to be made, I suppose.

If you decide to get one, I can only suggest keeping your expectations low, so you won't be disappointed.

I have no experience with them, however the top of the page says (and I quote): "MASTERLIGHT ORDERS MUST BE A MINIMUM OF $150.00 OR ORDER WILL BE REJECTED!"

I did not convert it but I do own an HP.

I did not get to see a fully charged Stinger before I jumped off, but this HP is bright enough for me. It makes a decently usable spot (not M*g tight thanks!), and will open up to about 3 times without bad habit like M*g.

I would say if you're happy with your Stinger, leave it alone. But for <$30 the HP upgrade just might be what you want.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Good point. I recently bought an HP and appreciate its long throw ability, which, however, comes at the price of a tiny spot (unless mine is atypical. When I open up the spot I'm not as lucky as PlayboyJoe because Mag Pastry* quickly appears.

I just ordered a Polystinger from Brightguy, which I expect will have a larger diameter shorter throwing beam. I will use the two heads for different applications.

I know other threads have discussed this, but they did not seem to have a definitive answer. When converting the Streamlight Stinger to a Stinger HP with an upgrade kit, it includes a new bulb along with the bigger head and reflector. Is this bulb the same as in the original Stinger or is it somehow different? If it is different, how is it different?

I believe the bulb is a different sized bulb (longer?) to maximize use of the larger reflector. It is the same wattage and brightness as the standard bulb.

The Stinger HP bulb appears to have the same height at the connection to the filament post. The center of the HP filament bows outward, however, while the Stinger filament is relatively straght.

There is also a spring included with the HP upgrade kit. It pushes against the head and the base of the HP bulb to keep the bulb in place. A much better arrangement than the O ring in the Stinger.
Regards,
Greg
