Hi,

My mother in law is looking for some good LSD/NiMH's AA's and AAA's. She tends to buy stuff at Walmart or Walgreens, etc. What is a decent price/performance product at these places?

Thanks,

Alan

Eneloops should be available at some Walmarts. They are also available at some Circuit City stores, and certainly available at most Costco locations (the coveted combo pack which includes 8xAA, 2xAAA batteries and 2xC and 2xD adapters, plus the charger, for under $30).

Buy any type, any size, any brand, any capacity, from anywhere, at any price.
She's your mother-in-law, whatever you do it won't be good enough :naughty:

I don't usually comment on remarks like this... but, it's very, very funny and probably true in many cases. You get 5 'crackups'!

Hi,

She is a pretty cool mother in law, so I can't complain.

I've never seen eneloops at Walmart, their website doesn't show them either. Or Sam's club.

Any other suggestions? I've seen some precharged ones at Walmart, but I think they were duracell or something...

Thanks,

Alan

I think Walmart is de-emphasizing them.

I got my recent LSDs from Target...they seem to have a bigger battery selection. No C or D cell LSDs, though.

There are some confirmed eneloop clones/re-badges -

Duracell Pre-Charged - these are fairly easily available locally - BUT important note - only the made in Japan with white top surrounding the +ve button are re-badged eneloops (made in China with black tops are NOT) - lowest local price seems to be $11.99/4 at CVS

UltraLast/Uniross Hybrio - again only the one with white tops and red/green color scheme were shown by Mr Happy to be eneloop clones (see Uniross Hybrios are Eneloops...?) (UltraLast Hybrio in red/gray are NOT) - $9.99/4 at Fry's

From what I have read so far most LSD are about the "same" as each other (exception may be the red/gray UltraLast Hybrio - see When is a Hybrio not a Hybrio?) - there may be differences, but not enough to make significant practical difference.

For example I showed quite clearly that eneloops were superior in maintaining a higher operating voltage and had lower internal resistance than the Kodak Pre-Charged with fixed resistors. BUT I could not show any advantage in any real practical usage - and I had initially set out to try to do that too....... please see this summary - Kodak Pre-Charged are $8.47/4 at WalMart.
(don't buy the combo pack with "Value" charger - it is not a very good charger).

Hope that helps.

My Target has Ray-O-Vac hybrids in AA and AAAs, slightly cheaper than any of the standard NimHs; they've responded well to being broken in on the 9000 and soft-recharged on the 808m.

Just my two cents.

i've had great results from the kodak pre-charged and at the price you can get them at wal-mart i see no reason to get any others (at least for AA format)
