What is the tightest beam angle standard optic currently avalible for the xpg led? NO aspheric lens ideas please.

Thanks.

I had Nailbender install one of his XP-G R4's in my Surefire L1 and the hotspot is tiny and bright. It is direct drive and the current is only 1.1A at the tail with IMR 16340.

The Malkoff XP-G Drop-in has a super tight spot too..I tried it with a KD V3 smooth reflector and wholly molly the tight spot gets smaller and brighter too.

Just looking for the tightest plastic optic currently in production and on sale for the xpg , not reflectors or aspherics.

LXP RS (Real Spot) Optics from cutter is +/- 5.5 degrees,
tightest I've seen.

They also have a 2.5 degree 30mm Optics for XPG,
which may work for XPG but I haven't seen anyone tried it.

Thank's.

Think im going for the LXP RS but that other one sounds interesting, any more info, what is the name of it?

I was impressed with the LXP RS.

Not a super tight spot but very little spill. Just 5.5+/- (11 ) degrees of light which makes it very good for the purpose I used it for ( diving).

Thanks, as you have previously suggested it is going into my W200 with an xpg.

It was dispatched yesterday. So hoping to get it all moded up for my Feb red sea trip.

That 2.5 degree looks nice, I wonder if it will beat an 30mm aspheric XR-E R2 I currently use on the Lumapower M1.

Whoa, whoa! How did I miss this thread? I've been looking for a throw oriented reflector or optic to go with my XPG based drop in. I see that Cutter has them for Osram Golden Dragons as well, like my Ra Clicky has... hmmmmmm.... More info please! Droooool....

+1

great discussion. I'm looking to build 3x or 4x XPG and want the most throw from either a reflector or optic. Not sure which way to go yet. Keeping my eyes open...

Sounds very nice. Did you retain the TIR optic that was matched to the original Cree emitter?
Edit: I'm guessing you didn't mod an older Luxeon / aspheric L1 with the XP-G?

Suppose I should throw the Ledil Heidi into the mix.

+- 4 degrees FWHM but unfortunately this is with a diffuse optic. I assume this is because of some sort of ugly artifacts that result from the tight beam. Anyway, I'm interested to see if anyone gets obtains this and can show some beamshots!

Hi guys,

is there now an optic or reflector available? Nad where it is available?

I'm jumping into this late, but I'm looking at modifying an incandescent bike headlight and installing a good 3W LED. The intent is to drop a XP-G into it, and end up with beam that is 8 deg wide (FWHM). Poking around Ledil's site, the Heidi looked like a great option. I tried finding a domestic source for it, and came up empty. Arrow is their distributor for the USA, and they offered a modest selection of Ledil goodies. Digi-key also bombed out. Even checked Farnell, but no luck.

So.... does anyone know who carries the Heidi optic? Where should I be looking?

thanks,

Steve K.

wait a second.. it looks like Mouser has it here
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...=sGAEpiMZZMurHQmwyojo5LFgVqa9ywmRCjPDds7MBw8=
, but it does say "for use with Nichia". The part number is what I want, though... CA11663. Mouser says the number is CA11663_Heidi-RS-N119, while the Ledil datasheet says CA11663_Heidi-RS-XP-G. Seems to be bit of conflict there. Time for an e-mail to Mouser, maybe?

update: nope.. the Nichia version is a different part. Mouser doesn't stock the XP-G version. Maybe time to ping Ledil and ask them who sells it?

Digi-key stocks the CA11264_HEIDI-D-XP for XP-E, not sure if there is any actual difference between CA11264 and CA11663.

I'm going to assume that there's a difference. There's no advantage to dealing in 100 part numbers when 10 would do.

I suspect I'll just have to contact Ledil and see what they can do for me. A few years back, I did order some optics directly from them. It was expensive compared to the prices from domestic sources... I think 5 or 6 dollars each, at least. Better to spend a little extra and get a known result than spend a little less and have optics that are no use.

thanks,
Steve K.
