I got a M3 bezel plus a MN11 coming...

I'm thinking of running it off a Leef 2 X 18650 plus SF tactical clicky tailcap...

Is there any other better body (same length or shorter please... I don't mind thicker boday, but not longer) or bulb or battery configuration for a brighter light???

The new M series LA by LF looks good but I'm not sure the 380 Lumens one will actually be brighter than the MN11..

Any thoughts??

And yes.. I have read mdocod's guide...:)

That's a great combo.

I've been running a P91 in an M2 bezel (C-C Leef 2x18650) for a couple of weeks, and just changed the L6 bezel on my M-C Leef 2x18650 to an M3 with MN11. Nice size for hand filling comfort. The KT4 installed is even more awesome, but I wanted the "wall of light" thrown by non-turbo heads for "bump in the night" investigation and front pocket jeans carry.

I usually prefer the Z48 tailcaps, but if you use a Z58 the resulting light will fit a modified V71 holster. The lower area of the holder was removed, and the 1 inch portion of the light body fits tailcap down quite well, even with a turbohead installed. Fans of the SW02 sure must like to handhold their "equipment"...

:)

hehe.

The MN11/MN16/P91 on big li-ion cells are fantastic. There are a few options that are brighter or similar...

If you slap a turbo head on it, (KT4) you could run LFs new EO-M3T which should be very comparable to a MN16 with the possible edge on brightness, (they would be too close to make a judgment with the eye I think).

If you are willing to go a half a cell longer, you could do a Wolf-Eyes M90 Rattlesnake with the 3x18500 13V kit and a LF 700 lumen D36. That would be a noticeable step brighter than a MN11, but not a big enough step to make or break a situation if you ask me.

You could also run unprotected cells in that body with a KT4 heat and a MN21 lamp, runtime is about 15 minutes, and it's really not very safe (have to be diligent about testing the condition of cells on a regular basis)... but it's retarded bright. Nearly 1000 bulb lumens..

Or there is (I think) a body available, or becoming available, from leef? that supports 2 of AWs new C size li-ion cells. That could safely run the MN21 for about 30 minutes. that would be an insane light as far as brightness goes.

other than those options, the MN11 is darned good... and personally. I like the smaller M3 bezel size over the large turbo headed options required to go brighter. I wish Someone would slap a 9V 4 amp lamp in a D26 for me, lol.)

Here's the M3 bezel + Leef 2x18650 + Z58 on top, and the M2 bezel + Leef 2x18650 + Z48 on bottom. My modified V71 holder, and edc massage tool for scale. The larger tailcap won't fit the modified holder.

I'll probably end up running a KT4 on the M-C body, and a KL3 or KL5 on the C-C version when it gets cold enough to need a jacket at night again...about next December.:sigh:

I was actually thinking of buying that M3 head you got, and doing the exact same thing with it:naughty:
I think it will be awesome on 2x18650. I've run the MN16 in a KT2 on 2x17500, 3x123, and 2x18650. Big difference with the higher capacity 18650s.

Thanks for the photos Paladin.. can't wait for the M3 bezel to arrive in my paws.. it'll be another 2 weeks more at least... :mecry:

I actually looked at the M3 head for a long time before pulling the trigger.. but I'm sure glad I did.. :twothumbs

I'm also asking around if the MN11 can be run on 2 X AW C li-ion as I think that would provide the LA with a bit more juice and also I prefer a thicker but shorter form factor to the longer one of the leef 2 X 18650

Thinking also of whether to get a turbohead. Correct me if I'm wrong but the turbohead is th only way you can run the more powerful SF MN LAs like the MN21 right????

2x C cell li-ion, thick body, a KT4, and a a nice and bright MN21 would be nice :)

500+ torch lumens!

i think the 2x 18650 body's are just too long/thin, and look out of place, especially with the standard M3 head. With the KT4 it's okay, like an M4. either C cell with KT4, or 2x18500 for the M3 head would be my choice.

Can you run the MN21 in a KT4? On the SF website, they only mention the MN15 and MN16 LAs only with the KT4..

AND why does the KT4, of all the turboheads, cost an arm and a leg??
all turboheads fit all turbohead bulbs, it's just that the M6 comes with a turbohead already, so they don't expect people buying a KT4 for the M6. The only logical light would be the M3, which can't provide the juice to power a MN21 with 3 primary lithiums. you need at least 2x18650, and even that's not the safest, so 2x 3300mAh C cell li-ions should do the trick.
and the KT4 costs more then the KT1/2 because it has shock isolation, which protects the bulb if you drop the light, or mount it on a firearm.

Paladin,

Looking at your lights especially the M2 bezel/Leef c-c/Z48 got me thinking. I've got a KL5 head coming in so thats gonna be on the M2 body. Means I do have an M2 bezel/z48 and SW02 available.....just need a suitable LA for the M2 bezel and a nice Leef body.......emm emm I think I'll visit lighthound....

My favorite light right now is my new leef set-up. I picked up a C-C 2x18650 body, a leef McClicky tailcap, some high capacity 2600mah 18650's, and an MN21 for my KT2 head. I also have the MN15 and MN16 to play with as well(really like the MN16 beam).

I first got this set-up about 4 weeks ago. After testing and taking beamshots of the new set-up, my MN21 decided to crap out on me :shakehead The LA would not power up at all, even when "hotwiring" it to a pair of 18650's. The filament was still intact, so it must of been something inside the LA. Well, to make a long story short, Surefire sent me a new MN21 which I recieved about a bit over a week ago. While I was waiting, I just used the MN16 which always satisfies me with it's brilliant beam and solid output(~450 lumens out the front on the 18650's).

Well, here is the cool part :naughty: The way I see it is, my first MN21 must have been a defect. The first thing I did after getting my light assembled was throwing it in the lightbox for a reading. If any of you remember my first post about my MN21 set-up, I got a reading of ~750 lumens out the front on fresh cells. Well, when I got my replacement MN21 from Surefire, I noticed the beam appeared brighter than before. I thought it may have just been me since I was used to the MN16 beam as I was using that LA while I was waiting for the new MN21 to arrive. So.....I threw it in the lightbox and to my suprise........~900 lumens out the front!!!!!!!! Even after using for about 5-10min, the light was still pumping ~800 lumens out the front :twothumbs I can't tell you all how much I love this MN21/leefbody set-up. FYI, my ROP high puts out ~700 lumens out the front in my lightbox....and this MN21 on li-ion beats it :grin2:

Need to check something, if I have a body with a M head, does this mean that I can fit ANY turbohead on it and run ANY turbohead LAs??

Gotta get someone to build me a 2 X C Li-ion body with a M head.. plus a tailcap switch that will work,

Any takers...   ???

Just the KT4 head. The KT1/2 and older model turboheads fit the regular line. Same lamps, just fit different bodies.
