Feasibility of fiber-optics for multi-LED "light engine"?

Anyone have an opinion on whether it would be possible to combine the light output of several LED emitters using fiber-optics? The idea I have in mind is having the LEDs embedded in the device, and route the fiber into the reflector from the front, using a "backfire" approach. Just thought this might have the potential to create a practical "point source" of light which could be successfully collimated by a conventional parabolic reflector, giving a more convenient form factor and better throw than other multi-emitter designs. But, I don't even know enough to know whether this is a realistic approach or not.

Great idea. I'm sure it could work. it might have losses in the optics/fiber some light will escape, but you could sure make a tight beam I'm sure.
