My brigth little cheapie hotrod:

1) Get a Dorcy Cool Blue.

2) Put a 1 1/4 inch 'dot' of write right in the center of the lens, then cover the entire lens with a second layer of writeright.

3) Replace the LED blub with a 4D Maglite bulb.

4) replace one of the AA batteries that sits positive up with 2 N cell batteries (will have to squash the ends slightly to make them fit).

5) carefully screw the bezel back on. You may have to try a time or two to get the N cells to stay in place.

During informal testing with two of my friends in a BIG (7 acre) back yard, this hotrod was slightly brighter than 2 different Surefire E2s that had a bit of runtime on their batteries, and just barely less bright than the one 6P that we had laying around.

Total cost, about $12!!! Soon as I pick up some 5D or 6D bulbs I am going to try adding a second pair of N cells to replace the other positive up AA.

No idea on runtime or blub life since the 6V buld should be running around 7.5V now, but so far it has maybe 20 minutes of intermitent runtime on it now without any loss of brightness.
