For some reason I can't post in the reviews section, so off the bat I apologize for posting here :ironic:.
Just got the new 2008 T4 after I was so pleased with the 2008 T1, and there are some pros and cons I can see right away.
First off, The pros. The 175 lumes appears accurate. It's almost twice as bright as the T1, and dwarfs a 2D Mag LED in brightness. Tint is very warm. Low mode looks like about 30 lumens.
Now the cons. Right off the bat, the LED is clearly off-centered, and I can't help but wonder how much throw is lost as a result. :hairpull:
Next, the switch is sort of weird, and is gonna take a while to get used to. It's not a mechanical click switch that locks into an on position. It's actually a digitally controlled button. You press and release the button for high, and press and release again for off once it has been on for more than 2 seconds. If you press and release in under 2 seconds from high the light goes to low mode. Press and release from low mode and it turns off. If you press and hold the button for longer than 1/2 a second, the light will turn off once you release it (this is the momentary mode). If you double press the button from any mode (off, high, or low) it enters strobe, and press and release from strobe to shut the light off. Until I use it in practice I won't be able to decide if it's a good thing or not, but initially I'm not wild about it.
Call me old-fashioned, but I live by the K.I.S.S. principle: Keep It Simple Stupid!
I'm not a fan of making things more complicated than they need to be, and a "traditional" switch design would have been better I think.
Anyway, thats my initial impression. Take it for what it's worth.
