1274 with KD V3 Smooth Reflector = 30k lux

I like throw type lights and considered the ROP 3854L to offer alot of throw.


I just got the Fivemega MagFire 2 18650. With 2 IMR 18650 topped off at 4.21V each I used a 1274 lamp with the KD V3 Smooth Reflector and got a really nice tight beam. At 5meters I took the lux and calculated back to 1m and got well over 30k lux.

Without going to a Turbo or Deep Reflector that adds extra size/lengh to this small Mag lego: What reflector out there gives tighter beam????
What other lamp gives alot of throw naturally? So far I have found this WA1274 and ROP 3854L, are there others?

The ones that I know will give more lux make it bigger and are the 2in Deep and 2.5in throwmaster by fivemega.

You could try the FM bi-focal reflector. Here is a review. In fact, you could also try the Litho LOP reflector used in that review.

I put the 1274 in a KT-1 with Fivemega bi-pin kit and the lux were less. I got 17,625 1 meter.

I also got the stock KT-1 6V lamp assembly and the stock unit with 6.4V input = 23,175 lux at 1 meter.

I use AEMC CA813 meter and take my readings at 5m and calculate back to 1 meter.

Make sure the 1274 is at the right focus height in your FM MN bi-pin adapter.

I have never used the WA 1274 before but now you have me intrigued about the possibilities.Not a lot of people use this bulb for some reason.

For direct drive with 2xIMR, the WA01111 (or the similar-performing Osram 64250) has clearly more output than the WA01274. The main advantage IMO of the 1274 is that it provides some additional voltage leeway if there is an instaflash problem.

Now when you get into soft-starting, regulated incans, IMO the equation changes, especially if the host light can run 3xLi-ion (e.g., 2D JM-PhD-D1 Mag with 3xIMR26500 or SureFire M6 with 3x17670 PhD-M6 holder). The 1274 can be driven at say 8.0V with low risk of instaflash. The 1274 runs cooler than the 1111 and draws less power. Output, however, is still higher for the 1111.

The stock 6V Surefire KT-1 lamp does provide alot of throw and a super narrow beam.

Does anybody know if the 9V KT-2 lamp do the same? I could use 2 IMR 18650's with that one right?

Did you loosen the set screw first? When installing the bi-pin in the adapter, don't crank down on the set screw either. That will jam the bi-pin leg in the socket.

The fivemega 2" deep reflector does not add much extra size or length and I love the throw I get from my 3854-L and 3854-H Mag 2D lights. It takes those 2 lights from 255mm to 275mm, not a whole lot more IMO.

I also like the beam from the 2" deep reflector, almost as good as from the bi-focal reflector and way better than the stock reflector.

This gives an idea of the added length vs stock for a Throwmaster and a Deep reflector. the bottom edges of the Mag heads are all aligned. Note that the red Mag is an old, non D serial numbered Mag and you can see the dimensional differences (e.g., larger diameter tube).

The Stock Rebel Reflector with this WA1274 does make a pretty beam and tighter hot spot, but after a couple minutes it starts to look burnt. So, no plastic reflectors for this one.

I really like the 2.5in Throwmaster bezels, but when I noticed them all the black ones were gone.:mecry:


EDIT: I have the WA1111 (5~6V) and it works great with 2 Panasonic (laptop recycled) 18650 cells. Super bright too.
