Has anyone modded one of the Dorcy 2AAs? I have one with a blown regulator and I liked that little light so much that I couldn't just throw it out. Has anyone done a retrofit to the driver and/or the LEDs?

There is tons of mod-history on this light, mostly using the step-up circuit it comes with but... it would make a great host for a 1w red-orange Lux emitter thermal-glued to a sanded down dime glued to top of battery-tube, then use a Frean LP optic. Could run that direct-drive on alkalines. You could also run the stock LEDs on 2) Lithium L91 AA batteries in there direct-drive, maybe add some 'low' resistance to be safe. Might also make a decent direct-drive {or w/ resistor} host for a 10mm "13-lumen" LED off ebay, 150ma as I recall at around 3.5-3.6VDC. a UV LED or a few would be fun...surround w/ glow-powder and clear nail-polish. A JouleTheif type circuit could run that body on ONE L91 and a dummy battery.
