Yes I have had a L2D and have even reviewed it with REAL beamshots (not white wall pics). And mine had a terrible memory effect, as stated earlier.

Nice pic, looks just like you ;)

And how would you explain a light with no memory suddenly having a memory? A light cannot have something it was not built with. Next you'll be telling us the integral death laser beam was also annoying.

If your light had a memory, it was NOT a Fenix.

I don't know, what I know is it was just like I explained earlier.

That will only happen if your do a fast off/on cycle, wait a bit and it will always start in low mode.

HKJ told this earlier, maybe that's what happened. Or maybe it had a deffective component that kept the memory for a longer time, a malfunctioning capacitor or something.

OH, death laser beams are really cool, by the way.

And like I said earlier, if your light had a memory outside of 1.5 seconds, it was NOT a Fenix circuit. No ifs, ands, or buts.

So if you insist your light was a Fenix L2D AND had memory, you are either lying, or an idiot. Which is it??

How dare you call me a liar or an idiot? You don't know me. Telling these things on a forum is easy, but would you tell me if you were here, right in front of me?

I'm here just sharing my experience with a L2D I bought AND returned to the store because it was full of defects. If you're here defending your beloved crappy L2D, and does't accept anyone to tell bad things about it, GROW UP and look for a different forum.

I sincerely expect an action on the moderators part, because I feel disrespected and I will NOT accept this from someone who I haven't even met in person, and whom I have NOT asked for opinions.

If the thing had memory, it's not my fault.

I will not post on this thread anymore, unless a moderator takes an action, followed by an apology from you.

I think the only thing we can have complete agreement about is that the troll pic is great. Love it. Peace, guys.

What you are spouting is not opinion or fact, it is misinformation, which either out of malice or stupidity, is not welcome on CPF.

What you claim is akin to walking into a McDonalds and whining the Whopper you bought there is cold, and you want your money back.

Well I was unimpressed with my L2D Q5 too, and returned it. Good UI? Come on, help me. The L2D has one of the worst UIs I've seen. It doesn't even memorize the last setting, so when you turn it on in the middle of the night you never know if it will turn on high or low or SOS. What a crap.

But I wouldn't want it to memorize the last setting. Not knowing what level the light turns on is the problem with memorized settings. Also I know what the light will turn as. There is a short time to tap up the modes but that is not memory. In any case I like my L2D Q5 as the beam is a mix of flood and throw. Some like more throw others don't. Also I like the no memory. Not eveyone is going to like the same thing.

What Igor Porto is saying does make sense.

The way the Fenix works is that it remembers its last setting for a very short period of time (under a second? in typical lights) so that it can jump to the next if it has its power cycled (the power is interrupted by a tap of the switch). (I am certain this has to do with discharge rates of a capacitor or something.) It certainly seems plausible to me that Igor could have had a defective model that did not detect power cycling at the correct intervals.

In any case, Igor Porto, you should not be so quick to judge Fenix based on a single piece. Every manufacturer has a lemon slip through the cracks once in awhile. You are getting a bargain in the light world ($50 for some large amount of lumens and excellent build quality) and even Surefire has occasional problems. There is a cost/benefit ratio and a couple missed pieces may take a lot more money to weed out, and that passes costs onto consumers who demand lower prices.

And what if you're wrong? There's no reason a malfunctioning circuit shouldn't exhibit the behaviour he described, and calling someone and idiot because you didn't realise they might have a malfunctioning light is..... ironic?

And also, I wasn't aware personal attacks were welcome on CPF. Quite the opposite, in fact.

So a light without any shape or form of memory suddenly grew one out of thin air? A component can't malfunction if it doesn't exist.

If a light has a memory, it can certainly screw up. But a light without the physical components can't suddenly grow them from nothing.

What are you talking about? The L2D clearly has memory. Since the reverse clickie cuts off ALL power to the electronics it must have some way to remember what the previous light level was when you tap the switch. Even if it resets back to default if you wait awhile. As I noted, this functionality is probably implemented with a capacitor.

A simple capacitor which discharges in <2 seconds does not exactly qualify as a MUCH more complicated memory circuit, which the L2D does NOT have.

How would a malfunctioning (ie out of spec) capacitor not appear to act as memory if it failed to discharge in a short period of time?

Let me present a much more likely scenario:

He buys a light from his local shady shop in Brazil instead of from a respected dealer. The light he bought was not a factory L2D, but a hack job mod that someone was not pleased with and returned. The original owner had attempted to replace the circuit for whatever reason (maybe he had fried the original on 2x14500 or something), and put in one of the cheap 5 mode circuits from DX which DO have the craptastic memory that is described. The results were unsatisfactory, the guy sent it back, and the small time shop dealer didn't have a clue what to look for to know if the light was still functional.

I can see no other explanation for an L2D suddenly having a memory which it cannot possibly have, unless there was never a L2D to begin with and it was some other light that a noob was confused with, such as this one:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13177

Remember, he did say that some of his "Fenix" lights looked and felt completely different, which should not be the case of L2D vs L1T

I think everyone needs to take a breather. Marduke, as a valued member you should know that personal attacks are against CPF regulations. Lets get back to the thread in hand.

It is like saying that a "out of spec" battery contains more power, it can happen, but it will not be a big difference.

Never hear this before? Big boy armchair bully who claims to carry a gun in real life telling someone to "I dare you to say that to my face! You disrespected me!"

Then he takes his proverbial ball and goes home out of shame.

I've been here long enough to see this same exact behavior from many people who all fit the same description.

I called him on his BS, he got his feelings hurt. Oh well, I'll sleep just fine.

Exactly. An "out of spec" capacitor might mean your faux-"memory" might work for .5 or 3 seconds, but not hours upon hours.

Might as well say that an "out of spec" Cree in the L2D was somehow putting out 623 OTF lumens. Sure, when the planets and stars all align, and the LED god blesses that production run with magical properties on a full moon, it's possible, but common sense and all practical and known technical aspects of the light scream otherwise.

Yes, actually. I can see exactly where the personal threat is in someone wondering whether or not you're using the internet to get away with things you wouldn't do in real life. Just to clarify, personal threats are "I'm going to kill you for calling me a liar". Marduke, you're currently acting like a spoilt brat who's desperately trying not to be wrong, and you've just done the "ahhh... yes, told you I was right all along" posture trying to convince everyone that's just witnessed this that you're the better person and you're right, and justified in your personal attacks. Sorry, not working this time.

What would you have said to the person that reported the first instance of a failing luxeon rebel? "Don't be an idiot, LED's last for 50,000 hours! hahaha! You've just done something wrong you idiot! And you're a liar too!". 'Facts' aren't always right all the time.

I've just lost a lot of respect for you :thumbsdow
