Three lumens is the lowest? Max brightness is not a concern, simple U.I. a plus but not required (I.E. no toggling through highest settings before low, the strobes and S.O.S. etc), quality build a plus but not requried, price flexible (but no $200 customs etc), any color L.E.D. is fine, any size is fine (but 1xCR123 required), any make.

Basically for this purpose it looks like I should have gone with the EL1 instead of the L1 I am currently trying to improve upon in this regard (48 hours x 3 lumens vs. 16 hours x 10 lumens).

Biut can the EL1 be beat by these standards? Aside from more runtime and lower low if possible, the only thing I'd change about it is to have a dual-mode twistie vs. dual-mode clickie (B.T.W. can I swap the tailcaps between L1 and EL1?), but that's splitting hairs and I don't see much out there that lasts beyond TWO DAYS, and if there is I want to check it out. Most of these type seem to be AA, AAA, 9v etc.

Wow .3 lumens is incredible. Although the U.I. is pretty complex (click, press, triple click, click-press etc), it looks like once you program it for .3 lumens as your primary, you never even have to see the other brighter settings?

Thanks for the tip S.H. I can't see how that's not the record. $170 is steep, but maybe I could sell my L1 and/or L4 to justify it.

If you look around you can find the 120P for about $130.00.
I just ordered one for $128.74 and its in the mail right now.
I can't wait. It'll be my first multi mode flashlight ! :twothumbs

Edit: Oh and its made in the USA and hsa a lifetime warranty ! :grin2:

HDS EDC is around 0.1 lumens thats a sure number, but if i recall correctly, it was 0.08

and is more efficient than the Novatac, specially the XR versions

Wait, programmable means somehting you do yourself once you get it, or Novatac programs it from the factory? It looks like they have (had) another model with their .3 lumen "moon mode" that's nearly half the price, and only three modes total which I prefer if you can bypass high and go stragiht to low. Unfortunatley it seems to be O.O.S., so it may be an older model. Nope: We have 24 on order and the expected arrival date is 01/31/2009!

M.L.- One review I found shows the lowest level at 0.12 lumens?! L.O.L. that's crazy low. Anyone know what's the output of cell phone displays? I think we have a couple of options that are DIM enough now anyways. Thanks for the tip.

What about the Ra Twisty? It has a very simple ui - 3 mode twisty that starts out very low.

One more vote for the 120P. Mine is set to the lowest brightness and set to come on at that level. It's great for moving around the house at night w/o waking anyone. Really easy to set-up too.

The Jetbeam III will put out 2 lumens for 150 hours on a 18650
The Jet I will put out 2 lumens for 45 hours on a AA Alkaline or 50 hours on a 14500
The Nitecore D10 will put out 45 hours on a AA Alkaline or 60 hours on a 14500

Price range from $59 to $77.96

SureFire 2nd gen L1 LuxIII 1.1 lumen 90 hrs one cell . . . hell of a thrower, need flood slap on a F04 beam diffuser tough as nails and good to go, can't be beat :eek:oo:

So many options now and soon to be released. Even discontinuted- ironic the predecessor to the L1 I bought has such a longer runtime.

I think I like the Novatac options best because they seem to be kind of like S.F. build quality. I think I'll be waiting to hear reports on the Novatac Storm. Same "moon mode" as the 120P but only 3 modes, maybe that's why it's almost half the price. I haven't seen a pic though so I.D.K. if it tailstands like the 120P, which is a plus but not required.

Thanks all.

Yep you got it right.Lowest setting on a hds is 0.08 and will last for about 40-45 days! And when your eyes are adjusted to the dark you can easily see well enough to walk around with.

for my ultra low-light needs, AND for my battery vampire needs... i use the Inova X5 RED led.

It takes ONE 123 battery, and will run for a LONG time on batteries that will not even make a wire glow in an incan light. I use it to drain all of my old 123a batteries. and it is my most used, and most well liked light.

it is less than 35 bucks, and built like a TANK.

Thanks S.S. actually I had considered that one from the beginning, but what kind of runtime does it get on its lowest low? Significant improvement over the L1 (current gen)? Most people consider this a liability, but I like the fact that it's one cell yet still as long as the other 2-cell L.E.D. colors.
