Any "Proud" Incandescent users out there?

I love incandescent's, and although I love using LED's as well, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for them. Now the main reason I love to use incandescent's is their color rendition, things just looks so warm and natural when I use them, users already know this. But there's more to the story.

In this day and age we are swarmed with loads of high output, highly efficent LED's and each year incandescent's role slowly disappear's further into the abyss. A while back I was with a group of acquaintances, all who had LED's with them, meanwhile I had my Surefire G3 turbo, anyway as we were sitting there compairing light's a sense of pride came over me as I shined the warm beam of my G3 across the lake, knowing I was probably the only incan user for miles. There are so many people, especially non flashoholic people, that in this day and age, will never get to experience a high quality incandescent, mainly because of the leaps and bounds the LED market has made. My point being is this, I used to enjoy incandescent's mainly because of their distinct advatages over LED, but as more time passes and incandescent's fate slowly arrives due to advances in high CRI led's, I grow more and more prouder to be one of the few remaining incandescent user's. If there's 20 flashaholic's standing around, 18 out of 20 are probably going to be using LED's, it just basic facts and math. Look at the amount of threads and attention this incan forum gets here on CPF and compair it with the LED forum, it's no compairson. So it's in this sense, as each year goes by, and more and more people convert to LED, I realise how "proud" I am to be an incandescent user and fan. Disagree or call it stupid, it's just how I feel.

I agree! I also love both Incans & LED's. I prefer LED's in smaller lights like Surefire P6 - P9 size, or smaller. You just can't get enough battery power for incans in the small size lights. In medium & large lights Incans Rule. With 3 or more larger cells they can put out amazing levels of light. The neutral or warm LED's are nice but incans are hard to beat for natural color appearance of the subject. Yes, incans run hot and eat up battery power quicky but they can out blast any LED in high power Hotwire Mods.

Many of our missions required long runtime, strong, durable bulb (weapon mounted, so the LED will be the first choice). But for myself, I prefer Xenon (I love to see warm, beautiful 'details' at the end of the beam). CAN LIVE in the world with Xenon only, but can't live in the world with only LED. Learned from my experience, many of my high-ranking military/law en officers friends all prefer xenon to led, though they collect both. :D

Incan bulbs give one a tactical advantage in being able to pick out details quickly. Something that you often cannot do with an LED light source.

I would be very hesitant to have a weaponlight that used an LED light source. And the emitter itself is strong, being encased in epoxy. But the electronics are more fragile and I have seen many fail.

More often than bulbs in fact.

Thanks guys for the replys but I think you're missing the point I was trying to make. I wasn't trying to compair LED's to incandescents, I was simply pointing out the "pride" I have in being an incandescent user and fan, especially considering how many users are converting to LED.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I started out with LEDs but the light that now sits in my work bag is my SF G2 with LF HO-9 on 2xRCR123s, love that little powerhouse.

The other incand i have and like is my Ultrafire WF-500, it's suprisingly powerful and has not had any problems so far.

Its sometimes great fun when others have LEDs and you pull out a pocket rocket incand :)

Oh, the other one is my Mag 3D using 3xAA-1D holders and a stock maglite 6D incand bulb.

Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

Yes, still using a 2xD oveready. Oops, I mean eveready 2xD of yesteryear. :naughty:.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I started out as an LED fanboy and then matured as a flashaholic and learned the wonders of incan. I still like my LED's but if it weren't for the runtime disadvantage, I would be incan exclusively. My EDC is a SF 6P w/ FM Sunlight WA1111 and a Moddoo Zero Resistance Tail, but the backup is a Mac's EDC SST-50. My favorite light right now though is my FM 2x26500 Exotic M@g host for a Philips 5761 w/ G4 adapter and AW soft start focused w/ an FM Throwmaster. The throw and color rendition are amazing.

So yes, I AM A PROUD INCAN USER!!!

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I wouldn't say that I am a "proud" incan user, but I do keep the incan bulb in my Surefire 6P Defender, because sometimes I do prefer the warmer light color. And up until I saw the differences, I never thought that light color can make such a difference, not only in color, but in the way things look when they get hit by the light.

Cheers
Thorsten

Proud incan user here! EDC is an E2E w/ LF HO-E2R on IMR 16340's. Several other incans in use around the house, and in my vehicle.

Just read my sig line.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I'm a proud member of the Incan Club. My EDC is an E2E-BK w/HO-E2A, Z68. I have a Surefire M4 on the way and can't wait! I have rechargables in my G3 which has worked out well so I'll be converting the E2E and M4 over soon.

I think what is happening most of the time is that people discover their first "bright" light nowadays and it's almost always going to be an LED light. So they don't really realize that super bright xenon-halogen bulbs exist, unless they were into it several years ago. Most people who own bright LED lights probably think of incans as old 2D grocery store lights or 3D Mags and big clunky 1mcp spotlights.

I agree with you unclevit, that I could go incan only, but I would never want to go LED only.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

Very proud Incan user, every light I own now is incan, except for one. Sold them all off. :D

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

When I first got my surefire A2 aviator last month it was a bitter sweet moment for me. The sweet part was how incredible the light is, the bitter part is seeing how great an incandescent light CAN be using that type of technology and knowing that no manufactuer has any intrest anymore, it's all about LED's. I mean rip the LED's out of the aviator and it's still an incredible light with the regualation and soft start. I can't imagine anything being sweeter than surefire releasing a whole lineup or regualted incan's, never going to happen though.:mecry:

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

The only one I have at the moment is my M6. And it's close to being my favorite light.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I am! When runtime is not a factor my favorite lights are E2 platforms. Sometimes a 6P/9P. My main goof off lights are M3, 12ZM, and the dreaded "Sea Cucumber" aka an M6 with a M3 bezel running an MN10 LA.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I still think that with all the homebrew LED drivers out there, someone needs to try hooking a well-matched incan to a cheap high-current LED driver. We could probably cram it into a dummy CR123 and get a regulated "M3t" in an M4 body.

The right tool for the job, guys -- but my last purchase was a vintage 9N. And before that was turning a grocery store 2D into a 150-lumen sleeper. Before that it was a PT Torrent Xenon. Before that it was a P7 and a KL4 which bombed, but... I see a pattern beginning to emerge.

Re: Any "Proud" Incandescent user's out there?

I love 'em both.

My warm Diamond Dragon Aleph Mule is my favorite up-close light.

My 4509 PAR36 is my favorite thrower.

My favorites change with the wind.
