How quickly would this head deplete 3 or 4 eneloops running in D adapters?

It has three levels of output so which one. I've got a 2.8A regulated P7 in my mag run by 8 eneloops, 4s2p. Runs at full bore (500+ lumens otf. Only a shade dimmer than a TK40 on turbo) for around 40-50 mins and then another couple of hours at a lower output. By lower output I mean it's still brighter than a TK40 on high (not turbo). Deduce from that what you will.

Re: High Powered "D" Maglite Drop in *Updated with Prototype*

I backed out of this project only because I am already using an MC-E drop in with FM's 1 C size host and I was pretty sure i didnt need another MC-E style drop in. Well, your Massive Magnificent HS has made me change my mind and if you are going to do a small limited run with the MC-E LED I am good for one drop in. I think I am #5 on your short list.

Does the 35mm Fraen reflector totally remove the donut from your MC-E beam shots?

SST-50 wish list - You mentioned that there was no compatible driver boards to drive an SST-50 at above 2.8 amps. What about TaskLed's D2flex which is geared towards P7 and MC-E style LEDs and rated up to 6amps?
http://taskled.com/d2flex.html

SST-50 LED alone is $50+ dollars and no driver boards compatible unless you want to drive it at 2.8amps.

Re: High Powered "D" Maglite Drop in *Updated with Prototype*

The d2flex is an unregulated PWM dimmer board. No different on max than connecting the SST-50 directly to your battery source. So, you'd have to either use a series resistor or the d2flex in conjunction with a regulator board, which is where the 2.8a limit comes in. If you are brave you could use the d2flex with a single 18650, single 26650, 3Xalkalines, etc. without a series resistor and rely on battery resistance and luck to keep from poof'ing the emitter. I'm using the high-bin SST-50 w/d2flex and a 1 ohm 5w resistor w/ 3 D cells. Not optimal, and probably loosing more power to the resistor than the emitter, but safe and OK. I have a hipcc I plan on putting in along with the d2flex, but only good up to 2.8a. That is actually a pretty good max level to run the SST-50 I think, before you start to loose more energy to heat than to light. I'm a total newbie to modding, though, so I'd listen to others if I were you...

Still interested in a single Li-ion drop/screw in.

Prepared to send a deposit or the full amount to ensure I get my hands on one.

#5 Hi, this thread got me to finally register. I will happily commit to 1 unit for a 4D Mag. I have to see what other D Mags I have at home, so I might get another, but just one for now.

... I think I am #5 on your short list...

Beautiful workmanship Mac. Very nice. :twothumbs I hope to own one of your products some day, but for now I am waiting on an SST-50 mag drop with over 1000 lumens. Good luck to this build. Sounds like it will make a lot of people ver happy.

Know anybody making a 4 amp driver to get this done?

Mac,

That is so nice. It seems like no matter what my expectation is, your work always exceeds that. I guess its the eye candy factor. How clean and perfect it looks, and the lettering around the edges really sets this apart from any other drop-in I have seen.

I wonder if some of the lost interest came from changing forums.

Mac,
Can you tell me what tint bin you plan on using if the project moves ahead. That would allow me to give a definite answer on interest.

I changed my mind, count me in. I'm going to sell my extra Malkoff XP-G drop-in and get this one for the extra lumens.
