Ok guys, after being really happy with my A9 with it's laser pointer like throw. I'm now looking for an LED flashlight with MASSIVE FLOOD output and throws like a little girl. Crazy lumen output would be cool too.

Basically, I'm going to be using it for lighting up areas outside at night so I can work in that area. Picture a 20' x 20' area outside in the dark. I want to light it up like a baseball stadium! :)

Let the suggestions begin!

I was going to say L4 or L2 before I saw the 20x20 foot requirement. At that point I thought X990 on flood setting. I guess the Wiseled Tactical, of Foxfury multi-leds would be my next choice. A mag 85 with diffuser would be ok but I don't know what kind of run-time you're looking for

ONLY 20x20 is easy.
I can think of a dozen lights with my diffuser that would do that easy and not alot of $$$

My little WolfEyes 6A/cree and Deree C1H diffused light up nearly 10 times that big.

You may want to goto REVIEW area and read about Fastcar diffuser..and linked threads.

You NOT alone wanting "massive" flood and "wall of light"..there is 100's of us.

Feel free to Email or PM me about this subject..I have tested this at great length.

:welcome:

Go over to the headlamp forums and check the reviews on the Zebralight. Talk about a wall of light - it's all spill and no throw.

'zup, Minuteman, ;) what I'm picturing is you affixing a light source over your head (or to a wall/tripod) somehow to light up a large area. Right? You're gonna need a lot'o light to get the job done. I guess that'd depend on how much light you wanna put on your work area...

How about building a Cree Bar from The Shoppe? Or maybe one of 4sevens area lights?

Those are the first two true area lights that come to mind. Other than that, the SF L4 is notorious for being a "wall" of light. I'm not so sure of its performance as a fixed area light (it gets HOTTT) or if the runtime would suit your needs.

Then there's McGizmo's Mule, of course, which is as pure and unadulterated flood light as they come. :)

If you want runtime and bright output, consider the Malkoff drop in with a 3D mag, a stippled reflector, and an ldf lens from flashlightlens.com.
This gives more flood than my 5 watt Nuwai, and probably more than an L4 as well.
It may not be as bright as you want....but gives you 6 hours with lots of flood.

Im gonna +1 Milky to build you something, but what it sounds like you need is a tripod worklight. Get one with 2 lights or so for plenty of light. But i've never seen one that works on batteries.

Why only LED? There are lots of non LED options. Incan, HID. If you are close to a receptacle and it is not raining one of those 500 watt portable worklights and a long extension cord will whomp most flashlights.

I don't know about baseball-stadium levels of bright, but an Inova X5 is about all flood and only mild throw, and in dark-woods use, it sure does well illuminating the wide immediate area. It's also pretty cheap ($30 i think?) and runs and runs on a pair of 123's. I get 20+ hrs useable out of ours, then about another dozen hrs of moderate diminishing.

We have one, used to use it all the time for night-walks. Nowadays I've been getting a ton of half-dead AA's from work each month, and vampire them out on an L2D-CE. The X5 would be still my choice, but getting 2-6 free half-dead AA's a month is free juice. Still have much love for the X5 tho. I would've killed for one 20 years ago in boy scouts.
