I used some of my Cree Q5s for an undercounter lighting project that came out ok, but not as great as other projects you guys have done. I should tell you though, that this was my first project!! Boy did I learn alot and thank you specifically to all of you that take the time to post and help us all to learn. I used his as an experiment a little too. Used Cree spot optics and the differ lense too.

Here is a link to it in the fixed lighting forum:

Off to mount some Seoul P4s in a cheap flourescent fixure that died in less than a year I got at Lowes. I am wondering how many of them will make the same light as the little 12 inch tube it will be replacing.

If you think you want to build some undercounter lighting, I suggest you read it so you will not fall into the same problems I had with the two biggest ones being heatsink size and color temperature.

You learn a lot from first projects don't you! I think you will enjoy the Seouls a lot more for indoor lighting. The Crees are great for producing a lot of light, but they need some serious defusing for use indoors, unless you really want spots. I wish I had equipment and skills for metal working.

I'm working on a kitchen sink light for my wife. I ordered some warm Luxeon K2s (LXK2-PWW4-U00) and an Advanced 700mA 120V driver (LEDUNIA0700C12F) from from Future Electronics. I decided to try the warm K2s because they were cheap and warm. I've been stewing over how to build and mount the actual fixture.

Enjoy your building!

Please, please let me know how you and the wife likes those led's. I was half tempted to go that route, but I had the Crees, nothing to do and a wife breathing down my neck about all these flashlight parts coming in the mail. I had to do something. I have an Advanced 700mA driver too that I did not use.

In my case I think a regulated power supply, then the PWM dimmer would be the best course. With full power to 4 Cree Q5's it is like, well four Cree powered flashlights beaming down at the counter. Way to bright. I switched over to a wall wort from a dead Samsung DVD player this morning hoping this would provide better power to dimmer so it would stay cooler (might have to create something there).

I will order some of those Seouls for my replacement flourescent fixture project. Really want to see if I can make a led fixture the same as flourescent fixture. Good luck in your endevour. I look forward to hearing about your results.

Just make sure whatever LED you get falls into the neutral white or warm white categories. Cool white USUALLY doesn't really go well with interior lighting. Once I'm done (probably in January, this month is going to be crazy busy with work) I'll definitely post information.

LED Zeppelin made some really nice under cabinet lighting recently. Check out his post here.

Thanks for the link. That was part of my motivation. Perhaps to bring the Crees into line I will try that yellow highlighter on lens trick.

I think instead of modifying an existing florescent light, I will so close to exactly the same as LED Zeppelin. I like the fact that his fixtures are thin.
