Before I joined CPF, I had no idea how many lights one needs. Now I realize I need a different light, with specific features, for all sorts of things. Here is what I have come up with so far for what I need:
A nightstand light:
-A low setting to avoid waking others
-The ability to turn on in the low setting
-Tailstand ability to serve as a lamp
-GITD o-rings, tailcaps or trits to help find it in the night
-A fairly powerful setting in case of trouble
Utility light:
-Tough
-Bright
-Floody
-OK to get dinged and scratched - maybe not too valuable
-Possibly a larger form
Outdoor light:
-Bright (200+ lumens)
-Good throw and spill for seeing what's going on in the distance
-Waterproof
-Maybe fairly compact
Car light:
-Strobe easily accessible for self-defense
-Crenulated bezel for the same reason
-Ablity to operate in cold temps, if left in car outside
-Long runtime, if an emergency happens
Headlamp:
-Multiple modes
-Floody
-Long Runtime
-Compact
And the Every Day Carry (EDC)
-Small form (123, AAA, or small AA)
-A clip or keychain ring
-Tailstand ability in case you need both hands
-Long runtime, to be used throughout the day
-Decent brightness (80+ lumens)
-Multiple modes
-Floody
-Simple UI
Of course, some lights might fit in multiple categories, but it's fun to need more than one light. So, what am I missing?
