Well, I'm certainly no machinist but I am definitely one who must work with his hands to be happy. I'm finally starting to take delivery of the stuff to build my garage workshop after having moved in last November. Still lots to get but at least it's taking shape. Newest additions are all the Whirlpool Gladiator benches, cabinets and accessories. I have 4 jumbo cabinets still to come. A pic of the new small Jet horizontal/vertical band saw, Delta 8" variable speed grinder, and the Palmgren cross vise for the 20" Delta drill press on its way. I'm just itching to get a mill, we'll see.

I have a Dell 1-year old high-perf PC under the bench. Can it be used in some fashion if I were to get a CNC capable mill?

Looking good. So is this "shop" for flashlights only, or are you going to be doing other things?

Nice shope! Thats was the same bandsaw I originally had and sold 2 weeks ago :) I picked up the next size up Wilton with coolant and boy what a difference. I also picked up 10 more the the Gladiator 24 cabinets when Sears had them on sale the other day for less than 1/2 off.

Nice shop. The PC should be fine for CNC work, assuming you have the proper CAD/CAM program to use with your CNC machines when you get them it will work well. High performance is a must in CAD environments, they are power hogs.

On a small scale, I'd like to get into making parts for hobbyists such as ourselves on a small lathe and mill in addition to moding flashlights. I don't want it to be a business, it must be fun!

Looking NICE!!!

I have the same bandsaw.
It is broken off the base and I picked it up for $100 bucks.
I made it into a vertical bandsaw and made a surface plate for it.
I use the base as a portable vise and use it all the time!
Actually glad it's in 2 pieces. Kind 2 tools for the price of one!

Keep updating the thread as things come together!

It really could use another foot of height for its vertical capabilities. I'll have to stoop down to use it that way. It came with a 9x9 vertical bolt on table. But then again, it's not going to be used in "production work". Just occasionally.

When I worked hands-on repairing automotive and heavy equipment, I frequently used a larger, coolant equipped saw. It did a very nice job. I thought about a little larger saw with coolant but I still want to keep a 3/4 ton HD Chevy extended cab and a Hyundai Sonata in our three-car garage. Doesn't leave a lot of room - especially if I'm toying with the idea of a vertical mill and small lathe.

65535, I use AutoCAD on this machine - although not a lot of 3-d, processor intensive stuff. I think it's a core two duo, 3GHz machine runing XP, 2 GB memory with Sata 3.0. I don't remember the FSB speed.

Looks real nice!

You might put something behind the grinder to help keep the white walls WHITE, if it vent out the back!

Thanks, Striker. My old grinder vented out the back and I ended up with some red plastic dust on one wall. It cleaned off easy so I was lucky. This one does not vent out the back.
