Yesterday I bought a 12v SLA spotlight. The battery was completely discharged. I charged for 10 hour and seems to work ok.

I was wondering if is normal for a new spolight to have a battery with no charge in it.

SLA batteries can be damaged by long term storage in a discharged state, so they're typically charged before shipping. If your light was sitting in a box on a shelf for a while though, the battery may have discharged itself. They're typically OK for 6 months, but if it's been sitting around for a year it could be quite discharged.

Did you measure the voltage of the battery? Was it enough to make the filament glow?

Where I live, it's much cheaper to buy one of those cheap spotlights, check operation before buying, and grab the SLA out to put it in your light..

I did that once with one of my lights: Payed $9.50 for a new spotlight in stead of paying $35.- for a new battery!!

EDIT: Forgot to mention: Never, never buy an empty SLA !! No matter what they tell you !!

SLA's can only be kept in good condition by keepng them fully charged at all times! So charge your SLA after every use, no matter how short!

Regards,

Ra.
