Hey All!
This is my first post. I just acquired a VSS-3A searchlight. I got all the manuals, the box, the remote, connectors, cover, etc. Best of all, the light works too!
The only thing I am missing is the mount.
I would like to install this light on one of my military vehicles. I don't have a Sheridan or an M-60 though, so I have considered putting it on my M114 or my armored car.
I would like to try to find the correct military mount and then make an adapter. If I can't find that, I would like some advice on how to best make one. Would you incorporate some sort of shock absorber, or were these lights built to handle these stresses internally?

Please let me know if you have some ideas! I would really appreciate it.

I don't have any information on how they mounted to the tank but would think you could possibly search out some pics. There are pics of VSS-1's mounted via the tri-point mount on the M60's so maybe some are out there for the -3. I would think if they are tough enough to sit on a ultra-rigid tank and take the over the "road" hard knocks, that they would easily handle anything else we could subject them to on "normal" roads. I had a couple of -3's and was lucky enough to get a TVODRD (cpf member) tripod mount for one. I would say the light is pretty beefy inside. He devised a tool for cutting mounting adapter holes at the specific Center of Gravity point on the lights.

:welcome:

Nice find, did you get the military cables with it? Most of us made up our own cables after purchasing connectors. I have only seen a pic of the -3a mounted in a helicopter. A pedestal type mount i believe. I can dig up the pic if you don't find it in the the other tank light threads.

A search will provide plenty of info..

These lights seem to lose the accessories over time, there are a lot of control boxes out there somewhere....

I may have some mount info in a parts book, I'll check back....

No, but the guyI got it from said he would help me make the cables once we get it mounted. (I guess he has a roll of the correct cable) He had 4 of these at one time. I got his last one. He still has a new VSS-1 if anyone is looking too, btw.

I found pics of the mount in the manuals, but there wasn't one included. Was hoping someone had one they wanted to part with. :)

I know it was supposed to go on a main battle tank, but this light is just far to cool to not mount on something I already have.

I cannot wait to get this thing installed and try it out.
:)
