Hi -

Hopefully a few of you who are far more into this high power/performane flashlight thing than I will probably ever be, can help me here. I am wanting to order a 35 watt HID light and have narrowed my choices down to either the Oracle or Jason's Tactical. They appear to be very similar and may even come off the same "bench"? Have any of you out there had experience using both and if so could you tell me what, if anything, is the difference between the two lights. I want a good light but don't want to spend anymore than I have to as I am retired and on what has now become a pretty limited budget for toys. I am tending towards the Tactical unit but am feeling that "maybe" the Oracle is a better built light overall and will last longer, etc.? Would appreciate any input here before I make any decision. Thanks to all who respond................

Light me up Scotty...........Terry

They look almost Identical, I'd say they were simply relabeled "though not sure which one:thinking:" I have know about the Oracle for a while so it "could" have came first:shrug:, but both have the same case, accessories, ect. So I would pick what ever one you want, though Oracle seems to have good customer service, I have no experience with the other brand:shrug:.

One very important thing I would like to point out it that the reflector on the "Tactical" seems much smother, then that of the Oracles. I can never remember the names of different surface textures, but the Oracle's it extremely rough "the most I have ever seen on a light" though it gives a perfectly smooth floody beam. While the Tactical is much "softer" like that of Lumen Factory drop in. I would assume it would throw better. It would be cool if we could buy either reflector so we could have one of both:twothumbs.

A lot of these Oracle threads recently:thinking:?

Do these flicker and get hot quickly like the 24 watt version?

Can't speak for others other but mine starts up real smoothly looking a little blue like cheap LEDs, then it starts taking on a more yellow / redish tone "not really yellow / redish" but more like an incandescent" then it sort of blinks to a lower output at around 30 seconds at a near perfect white:twothumbs. It doesn't actually turn off, but just drops in output like a quick flash, and then you know it's more or less warmed up. I have never felt the head get very hot while using it for extended periods "It gets hot, but nowhere near the point I would think it was bad for the light.", but if I'm just using it for general illumination I drop it into low output and even after a good deal of time "say 25 minuets the head just warms up a little:thumbsup:.

Here are a couple of observations I have made while trying to decide which light to buy. I haven't seen any reference to them on CPF.

1. Oracle's site says the light is finished in "Black Powdercoat" and Tactical's site says "Hard anodized III" finish. Does anyone know if this is really the case? Seems strange since these are worlds-apart finishes.:sssh:

2. Oracle has a "One year unconditional warranty" on their lights and Tactical has a "90-day warranty".

Everything else being equal, I would say it is just a matter of personal preference. I have not seen any real beamshot comparisons of the two yet, so I cannot comment on that aspect.

I would bet a good sum of money that it's not HA III, and as far as powder coated…? I have no idea. Though be careful, the new Oracle 35 watts seem to be only single mode now, you may have to ask for the double mode.

That's a big difference in warranty period. If it were me I'd have to lean toward the Oracle for that reason alone.
