with all the new cree/seoul powered lights, efficiency has gone way up
i think it maybe be time to change out my EDC, which is currently my A2

my requirements:
1xCR123a (would consider 2x cr123a if the runtime was VERY long)
push button or clicky, i dont like twist on lights
adjustable output
over 100 lumens at max output
would like at minimum 1-2 hours run time at max output
i need something with decent throw, and some spill ( don't want wall of light, or throw monster) i'll be using the lights for very wide range of distances
max price of $200
i don't like lights that are too short, makes it difficult to hold sometimes, for example i find my p1 to be too short, something around 4" long would be perfect

I love my P2D w/Rebel LED. It is an awesome light. With the adjustable levels you don't have to waste your runtime when a lower level is all that's needed. The beam on mine is nice, no rings or artifacts; perfect mix of throw and spill for up close, or a little farther away. On turbo it is surprising ho far this thing will throw though. The only thing you may not like is, it is only slightly longer than the P1. By my measurement around 3 1/8". Personally I woudn't go any smaller than that, but for me this light is the perfect size. YMMV though.

I would recommend the Fenix P2D CE Q5, but it might be too short for you, and you would like 4". The P2D is only 8cm long.

Fenix P2D CE Q5

Though on paper the Q5 is brighter, I bought one for a friend, and output is almost identical. The main difference is tint; mine is slightly pinkish, and his is bluish-white. I would save $10-15 and go Rebel. All this IMHO of course.

I love my L1 Cree. It's not 100 lumens on max output, but it's deceptively bright. I think it would meet most of your requirements well.

You would accept a 2x123 cell light if it had a loooong runtime?
How about 9 hours in reg - SF E2L. Nice size and simple. A McClicky 2 stage tailcap will give you the adjustable level option.

I have an A2, U2, modded HDS U60 (120 lumens), and P3D Q5.

I agree LED technology has improved sufficiently you may as well change. LED lights are more amenable to rechargeable cells than the A2.

I'd suggest the Novatac 120P. It meets all your criteria, except it can't run 1-2 hr at full output. However you can reduce the brightness 1-2 levels (very slight visibly) and it will. It takes rechargeable cells, and has a well-balanced general-purpose beam.

A cheaper alternative is the P3D Q5. It is very impressive. Super bright, runs 2 hr (!!!) on max output on CR123As. Not really designed for rechargeable cells, but runs OK on AW 750 mAH RCR123As: http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1155

Caveats: P3D surface texture is a little slippery. Reverse clicky switch.

These options are especially useful for the P3D:

Fenix diffuser: http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2959

Fenix red filter: http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2960

Fenix P2D Q5

if you want something with two 123 cells, the P3D Q5

also, in your sig line... use "you're in trouble" not "your in trouble".

Check out the Olight Q5 T10. I believe it's a little longer then the Fenix. I am looking for a new 1 CR123 light also. This is the one I think I want.

If you want one of the smallest, long run time Cree, see Endeavour
Nautilus,

Bright Guy also may stock for under $200..........I am carrying the Ti version and there are several reviews.

Endeavour built the CR2 Ions, as well.

Good luck with your quest for a new light.

I would recommend a Surefire L1 or a Novatac EDC 120. I own both and they are 2 of my favorites. As stated above the L1 is not rated by Surefire as 100 lumens but it sure is bright and all around a great light. The fact that they both have lifetime warranties is nice too, not to mention made in the USA.

acutally, im looking for the opposite,
something like this would be fine for keychain, but im looking for something longer, 2.6" long is def too short

4" would be perfect

The L1 measures almost exactly 4 inches by the ruler I've got on my desk. If you get a chance to try one out in person, do so. You'll probably end up liking it.

i had one of the old L1s, the ones with the lux led, and TIR lens
i didn't like it much
i haven't had a chance to play with one of the new ones yet

Unless you're in a hurry I'd wait for the new Arc LS and see if it fits your requirements. There's also the new Cree-based Surefire L1, and related models that I haven't kept track of. The Fenixes that people keep mentioning are good low priced lights but they're not in the same category.

I was looking for something similar when I joined here, and have, after much research, decided to go for the Novatac 120P, if I was going for something bigger then the fenix P3D q5 sound like it might be right up your alley-a lot cheaper too!
