This a HID spotlight I threw together late one friday night with bits I had lying around. The host is a cheap ($8AU) halogen spotlight that originally had a 55w globe and a 6v SLA battery.
The battery had long since died so it wasn't much use. I bought a cheap HID headlight conversion kit on eBay that came with two ballasts and two 35w 6000k globes.
The ballast wouldn't fit inside the body so I cut a hole in the back and the end of the ballast protrudes out the hole. The duct tape holds it in .
I used the spotlight's original trigger switch and most of its wiring.
There's no room inside for a 12v battery however so I connected a cable with a cigarette lighter plug on one end that I took from an old 12v air pump. I run it either from a vehicle or a 12v 7ah SLA battery that can be carried in a backpack or similar.
Next time I'll try and do a better job but for what in cost and how long it took to build I really can't complain.
