I have not yet visited HomeDepot yet.
But I am looking for PVC pipe that the ID will fit a 18650 cell in general without doing machining?
Do they make such a sized pipe or is it hard to come by? Do I have to go somewhere special to find it, or does someone know that HomeDepot already does not carry that kind of thing?

I want to make a couple of battery holders using tubing as a starting place and then just cut the tubing in 5/8 for access to insert and remove the battery, but I don't have the tools to bore out the PVC pipe to enlarge the diameter. I have friends, but if I can find the right PVC pipe to start with I can do all the work with a dremmel I think.

IIRC, 18650 is 18mm diameters, 650 mm long.

That's an external diameter of 0.708661417 inches ( I love google).

Per http://www.harvel.com/tech-specs-pvc-pipe-80.asp, there is 3/4 inch sched 80 pipe that is .722 inches ID.

Sched 40 and sched 80 pipe is widely carried by all the hardware stores.

When have you seen an 18650 that was exactly 18.0000000mm in diameter? It's more like 18.5mm, but the 3/4 PVC will still work. If it's too tight, you can ream it out with some sandpaper on a dowel.

And it's 65mm (more like 67), not 650mm. 650mm is over two feet.

And THERE is the reason that I start it IIRC

:)

I was going to mention that the 18 mm is nominal, and that the shrinkwrap, the protection circuit and manufacturing irregularities will make each battery somwehat different.

As for 650 VS 65.0 ..... Oops!

I probably should have pointed out that the sched 40 pipe has thicker walls and smaller ID.
