What Is Better? D-Land Or D-World?

I am not sure if I have ever been to Disney World, but I seem to remember going there when it first opened... the globe looks familiar, when I first saw it on TV. I have been to Disney Land many, many times in my life, because it is close by (I live in Ventura county)... so, it's less than 2 hours away (depends heavily on traffic). Unfortunartly, the last time I went I did not get there until 2:30pm, and it started to rain at about 5pm! Left by 7 or 8. Sigh ... I was talking about going again next week with a friend. Any experiments anyone would like me to try

? Or, maybe I could take some pictures? (yeah, like I wouldn't do that anyways

Hello Doug, D-World is in Orlando,FL & D-Land in L.A. area.

It was easy to ride the space mountain ride and hold on with one hand while the other flashed around the Scorpion.

They're lots of rides that are in the dark. It would probably be fun to light up the holographic images in the Haunted House - I would imagine you could drown out the effect if you wanted to spoil the party for everyone...

Doug Disnyworld is clearly better, I've been to both.

They're out of land for expansion in LA. Florida has many many more varieties of exhibits and rides due to the vast amount of land they own in Florida -- there's no comparison!!!!

.... Why do you think I haven't been to DW in sooo long, it's on the other side of the US! I am not exactly a be traveler ... so... But, I live in So-Cal, not much traveling to go to DL, Tragic Mountain, Knotts (no one goes there anymore, do they?), etc. Universal is here, Hollywood .. geesh, we have 90% of the worlds attrations within a 2 hour drive from me, why go anywhere

I thought they where using re-claimed land? You know, filled in swamp lands

? I have heard that you have to go up to the top floor of Pirates Of The Carribean to ride it, since, unlike here in CA, where the ride is mostly underground, in FL, they can't have anything underground.... is this correct?

Anyone have any pictures of DW?

While in Florida I went to both Dworld and Universal. I still recall the 'Back to the Future' ride, that's Universal, right? -- really shook me up -- but sometimes I wonder if the rides jolt more when I'm on them with my 245 lbs.! Then there was Magic Mountain (Dland? I get them confused) -- after the (harrowing) ride, my safety bar wouldn't unlock, I couldn't get out, thousands were on line waiting, and they couldn't fix it! I was asked if I'd like to go around again, to which I replied with a long, loud, 'NOOO!!!!!' -- so they detached my car and pushed me through a secret hatch in the wall into the repair room, where I sat trapped for 15 minutes till the expert repairwoman showed up - she popped a latch and I was out in a moment - whew! - for my trouble, the group I was with got a free pass to the front of the line at Splash Mountain...
--say, Doug, you got an extra bed for me at your place tonight?

PS-- oh, and in case of another blackout, I can supply my own flashlight!

Cool... looks fun. Magnetic braking ... nice to see that on more and more coasters theses days (Didn't a coaster at Mgic Mtn. out here in CA have that feature first? I guess not on Superman, otherwise that woman/girl would not have died

The beautiful thing about the magnetic breaks (can't remember the techinical name for them ... "kinetic damping system" or something like that..) ... you can have them where ever you need to control the speed of the cars ... so, lets say you want to make sure the cars do not exeed X miles per hour on the first drop, well, you put theses puppies on the drop portion of the track, and you can (with fine control), control the speed the cars drop at. So, it doesn't matter if the train is empty, or full of body builders (which would make the cars heavier, and fall faster) drop at the same speed. Also, using magnets, you can do the same thing to push the cars. Overall it's a great way to do things, simple, simple, simple! And there is nothing really to wear out!

One thing I do not understand.... how do they keep the magnets from wiping out peoples media (digital camera's compact flash / smart media cards / floppie's, etc)? Shielding in the cars? Anyone know?

--I thought Galileo proved by dropping stuff off the Tower of Pisa (wasn't leaning then, was it?) that objects of different weight (and similar shape of course, so wind resistance is similar) fall at the same speed? (Maybe roller coasters are different?)

The extra weight wouldn't make the cars fall any faster, but the increased mass would give them more inertia, making them harder to slow or stop. For instance, I'll catch the 90 MPH fastball, you can stop the 90MPH semi!

Why bother with D-Land? Isn't Magic Mountain still there?

Sorry Doug. This is incorrect. Even the great and powerful Disney cannot fill in swampland. Too many laws and rules for that. Also on the point of underground. DW has a vast underground complex. It's where the Mouse Factory(workers name for DW) employee's report for work so the public does not see them come in. Also it's where the the supply's are kept and the workers change into there costumes. It's so vast that they use electric carts to move supplys and people around. Having lived in Orlando, I have known many DW workers and have had pointed out to me some of the secret egress's. One is in the back of the jail on Main Street. Hope this helps.

First - anyone taking cameras on a 93 mph ride deserves more than just wiping out their media!

but since the magentic field falls off at the square of the distance, you would probably have to put your media right near the track to get it wiped out. Maybe it just flips a few pixels!

I thought Galileo proved by dropping stuff off the Tower of Pisa (wasn't leaning then, was it?) that objects of different weight (and similar shape of course, so wind resistance is similar) fall at the same speed? (Maybe roller coasters are different?)

that's true for when only gravity is involved. i'm still trying to find a good, easy discussion of it, but i believe newton's second law applies here. gravity is one of the elements, but there's centrifugal force, etc. and i recall seeing on a roller coaster show a race between 2 coasters that ran side by side with one guy in each set of cars - and the "burly" guy came in first.
