45.2 Kbps. $4.95 per month. Good enough for me.

It's great to save a few bucks. (But then, Scrooge McDuck is my hero.) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

8 megs downstream? Wow. Do you have multiple T1s or
a DS3?

To be honest I don't know. I do know I have downloaded over the 10meg a second mark, I work at a large state university so it is a big fast connection /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok, got it. You're on a college LAN, so your D/L speed is probably running close to the wire speed of the ethernet connection itself. I'm betting that the university has at least an OC-12 going out to the Internet, and possibly even faster. Lucky you! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I never expected this to happen!

There was an article in my local paper yesterday saying my primary ISP (Charter Pipeline {cable}) was dropping their basic service speed from 768K to 384K and cutting out their middle speed plan 1.5 meg which I was on.

I thought, Oh crap, I can't live with 384K, not after two years of 1.4MB (actual, average)... and the highest speed plan was $130 a month when I signed up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif

So, I went into the Cable office to see what was what, since the article in the paper was confusing and very poorly written by someone without any technical knowledge.

Went in to the office a little irritated, left VERY happy.
Now getting 3MB (Nominal), at $40 a month; 2/3 the price I was paying for the 1.5 MB service.

Just measured my new connection and it was:
3.5 megabits per second
Storage 425.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 2.4 seconds
Subjective rating Awesome

Whoopie!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

Comcast bumped us to 3 or 3.5 recently, but it's still a bit slow in the afternoons here.

I'm on Comcast (Detroit, Mi suburbs) as well. Blinding fast!!! Click, done. Never any slow time here.
