Which reflector for ROP LE?

I am building a 2C ROP LE. But don't know which reflector to use, a
FiveMega SMO or MOP? I want as much throw as possible so I am leaning towards the SMO, but am worried how about bad the beam quality will be.
Any advice/thoughts appreciated.

I use my ROP LE outside for the most part and find that I like the LOP reflector the best. I don't really notice the minor filament artefacts at all because I'm usually lighting up something that's 50 to 100 metres away.

I started with a MOP, then tried a SMO, and eventually settled on a M2 LOP for the HI bulb. For the LOW bulb I use the SMO.

I think you should go with the SMO instead of the MOP.

If I were to need an artefact free floodish kind of beam for white wall hunting then I would just frost the envelope of the ROP bulb instead of buying a stippled reflector.

Frosting bulbs is easy and inexpensive.

If your curious about frosting, you could lightly sand the glass envelope of the stock 2 cell bulb of your 2C Mag with some wet/dry sandpaper and try it with the stock Mag reflector while you wait for your mod parts to arrive.

If the ROP bulbs can be etched with armouretch go for a smooth reflector. If you get lucky and find a Fivemega 2 inch deep smooth reflector it will also smooth out the beam and give it laser like throw.

Well, I don't have a 6 cell Mag, but I do have the bulb You can use the 6 cell bulb in the Rop LE due to having the proper voltage. I picked up a set just for comparisons sake, I run the ROP bulbs as well.

In my DIY lightbox, I got ~100 lumens from the 6 cell bulb in my ROP LE(should be roughly the same as stock 6D). With the ROP low bulb, I measured ~275 lumens. And the high, which is the bulb I use, came in at ~700 lumens with fresh cells . After about 5 minutes of being on with the high bulb, the output settles down to about 550 lumens.

Point of the story, the ROP LE even with the Pelican low bulb will SMOKE a 6D Mag with ease :rock:

Most of my ROP uses are within 70 yards or so. After trying several I settled on a light stipple reflector from Light-Edge.com. It's not in stock at the moment but there's 25% of medium stipple reflectors and a CPF . special shipping rate on all orders.

Just to have a variety or responses in my ROP LE and the LO bulb I use a stock mag reflector which I hair sprayed a layer on, allowed to dry then repeated about 8 times. Smoothed out the beam nicely without affecting the throw.
