Not sure if this is the right place to post this. If not, appreciate if the mods can move this to the appropriate forum - TIA.

I need some rethreading done for an adapter. I don't have the skills or the machinery to take this on, so I'm hoping to source for some help here. Looks simple to me and I guess any accomplished machinist here should be able to do it in a just a few short minutes. Please email me at alantch (at) yahoo (dot) com or PM me if you're interested to help out and we can discuss further.

Thanks,
alantch

you should probably say what you want done with pictures and diagrams if possible.

Just as an aside, this statement alone will get many machinists to click the back button. The latter half of the statement is only true if the setup is already done.

Things that might seem simple are often not quite so simple to setup/hold/machine/thread. Without a photo, diagram, dimensions, etc., it is impossible to tell.

There is no single custom threading "anything" job that would only take a couple of minutes. Even if you use a tap/die for a "standard" thread, you would still have to set it up, perhaps test it on a piece of scrap, etc.

I'm certain you meant to type "a few short hours"

I'd rather have a tooth extracted than to set up to recut an existing thread. If you're lucky, the tool will exactly track the existing thread - after 20-30 minutes. If there's no luck, you don't want to see what a double thread looks like, but it isn't pretty.

Thanks for all the replies. The original request goes to show that I have absolutely no idea what machining is all about - hence the no skill statement :D

I don't have the part with with me at the moment, so I can't provide any pictures or measurements. But if anyone here is up for the challenge I can have it redirected to you to have a look. How's that sound?

I'll take a look if you want - send pictures - there are lots of us here who MIGHT be interested once we KNOW what's going on - Heck, your adaptor might be 20 stories high....

I actually found it easy. Engage the half nut on the correct number (Threading dial) Then jog the compound over until you line up the thread.

KC2IXE decided to not take it up.
The part is currently on it's way to me. I'll see what I what I can do to it when I have it in my hands. Thanks to all who replied.
