Hi,
I want to put a car xenon lamp in a maglite.
Does anyone ever tried this?
If so do you have suggestions what to use,
mag 3,4 ,5 or 6?
What kind of reflector.
Wich xenon, H3,4??
Batteries???
etc etc.
Ive done LED mod's. P7, 4xP4. 3xp4 etc etc.
But now im curious what xenon does :)
So if anyone can help me......
Tnx,

Jasper (NL)

HID requires a ballast, which the 10W Solarc will fit, but the body has to be machined. The 10W HID produces about 600 bulb lumens or at the bottom of the output performance scale for HID. Large automotive HID lamps and ballasts are much too large for any mag platform.

If you were talking about incandescent lamps, there are far better lamp choices than trying to figure out how to make a "H3 or H4 bulb work, which would never be practically possible anyhow, due to their size.

You should start with these two threads by Lux Luthor..

There is still the issue of fitting that very long bulb into some kind of head...probably a custom 3" would be the only thing that would work. As it is, the mag head simply isn't deep enough to utilize an automotive bulb. Heat would be the other problem. The Mag is fairly small and would quickly overheat the head and body of the light which would conduct back to the batteries. By the time you invest your time and money into creating some kind of frankenlight, you'd really be best off to purchase an existing design like the AE light for example. ;)

Xenon usually refers to a Incan lamp, well at least to me.

HID is a HID, there are many types, and the only one I've seen in a Maglite is the 10w solararc.

I'd go for a Hotwire mod. For that look in the Incan section. The threads posted buy Patroit36 have most of them.

Ditto that.

We refer to them as just plain, "HID" Fixmaster :)

Are you sure?
Got this from a forum:
Almost all automotive HID bulbs are filled with Xenon gas.

With us here in The Netherlands if we talk about Xenon we mean HID.
But a HID can also be for instance a metal-halide bulb wich doesnt use Xenon gas but uses a mixture of argon and mercury gas.

You have caused confusion by posting the same thread in 2 different sub-forums. Cross-posting in this way is against the rules - please read them.
