It can not have any PWM in the light output as it will interfere with recording.
The light needs to be wide enough to cover most of field of view of the video camera.
The light needs to make nice and smooth pattern.
So far I'm using one of those 9LED 3AAA thing held together with my camera and it works fairly well compared to nothing.
