the search function requires a lot of reading, which i hate.

but i tried it anyway, best i can decipher is the

Titanium innovations N30 (Illuminator or Mega illuminator) ? at battery junction for a first time HID user?

if you know of anything that can beat it for lumens and runtime sub $200 please let me know

i prefer a tight beam to flood, and it will be used on the battery pack not plugged into anything.

it will be used for security outside (bumps in the night) at home, the house is located in the middle of a forrest (pitch black)

I really love my N30. I measured the useable distance it can throw. On trees with green leaves I get just enough light to see them at almost .4 miles. That is it's limit for non-reflective objects and is 600-700 yards. You can see more reflective objects at even farther distances. The output, spill and corona are unreal. You almost have to see it to believe this much light is coming out of something so small.

From what I gather here the Mega Illuminator is only good if you need more throw than that. It is much larger and heavier than the N30. If you need to see something beyond 600-700 yards then it would be a good choice. I can't imagine most people needing more throw than the N30 has. Check out BlueBeam's Mega Illuminator thread for more info.

I didn't think about the Sunforce. I think I remeber Bluebeam saying it throws about the same as the Mega Illuminator. One thing against the Sunforce is the 6000K + beam color. Some people like a blue tinted beam, and some don't. The Titanium Innovations have a 4200K HID which is very pleasing to my eyes.
