Comparing New UltraStinger vs. ROP.

Have received a new Streamlight UltraStinger with chargers yesterday and fully charged it up before bed. Took it outside with my ROP/mag to compare it (a short continues to plague the mag light). The UltraStinger has usable spill, enough to walk with thru bush. Here the ROP beats the U/Stinger but not so needed as beam in practical everyday use. It's the beam that is interesting. Adjustable, tight, with noticeably longer and brighter throw than my ROP with FM's better reflector. The Streamlight rating of 300 lumen is probably under rated even when reading only the light coming out the front. It feels tougher built than many of my other lights I have including some Streamlights, SureFires, and Pelicans. And the charger appears robust in construction too. (I have gotten tired of breaking out lithiums just to charge them.) I expect years of tough use at work on the rails and at home.

Any suggestions as to good ownership/maintenance from your experience with your Stingers?

Quite a few years ago I bought a UltraStinger - as an upgrade to my polystinger - to use in a pulp & paper mill. I found there was TOO MUCH light (which I find hard to believe) - or maybe it was just that the pipes were cleaner than the mill I work in now - as there was too much reflection off the stainless piping.

Should last a long time - I do find that my polystinger now REALLY doesn't cut it (brightness).

nfetterly,

I agree that some situations call for a moderate amount of light. Did you know that the male eye stops squeezing down to a tiny aperture later in life; that is why I havw needed sunglasses in the last few years.. lol. Actually that is one reason why that the older you get, the more different flashlights you need. Its a fact Jack.

I own a Stinger and after 3 dang batteries in not too much time I gave up on it.

After my second Magcharger battery I got a NimH stick for it and only charge it overnight every month or so. But then I don't really use the light that much.

A Pocket Screamer like Fenix P2D does pretty much what I need from a light.

I do not think that the OP started this thread so you guys could pan it. Help him with his questions, see post 1. One suggestion was good. Change to NiMh battery packs. A good time to do that is when the old ones are starting to fizzle out. I have an UltraStinger and it a great light. I do not use it that much, but the OP plans on using his for quite awhile.
