If that's the article I read a few days ago... the US has PLENTY of lithium ore, but we don't want to mine/refine it. Apparently that's a particularly nasty process. But at least we've got it.

A couple of years ago, a friend told me that Panasonic was in the process of building a lithium processing plant, and manufacturing LiIon batteries for Tesla. They are building it near a mountain that contains lithium. That will reduce the cost of transporting the lithium for processing.

As 2021 winds to a ckose NASA announced they have been able to "touch the sun" with a probe and it lived to do it again. It seems super shielding could withstand over 2000 degrees farenheit on the outside while only reaching around 85 on the inside.
