Hello, I have recently gained a lot of interest in lights. Mainly flashlights and spotlights. I currently have a Maglite 4-D Cell LED. I need a spotlight that can hit 500ft easily, like shining a Maglite on a wall that 10 ft in front of you I'd like to have a spotlight that will reach that far with no problem. I live 500ft away from some people that like to fight and there is also other things that go on over there and I'd like to be able to see what's going on over there using a spotlight.

I don't have a big budget but just list what ever you think may get the job done.

Thank you.

Edit: I have been looking at the Stanley HID 0109. Would that be a good choice?

kinda a bummer not getting any replies on such a simple question :shakehead

The Stanley HID is definitely your best choice as far as a stock, affordable, cost effective spotlight. Its only about $70, and you get a powerful 35W output that has a decent lifespan, and its super portable (at least for a spotlight). While your at it, drop in a p7 LED into that Maglite of yours.

The Stanley HID is a great choice

EDIT: This particular light is so popular that it has a entire thread dedicated to it

what is so great about 15-20min runtime????
imo stanley is horoble choice, if price is the only creteria you care than you'd be better off buying halogen taht lasts 2x longer than 20min, if not add another 100 and get hid with at least an hour runtime.
what you pay is what you get.

just my 0.02

are you sure those ppl wont mind you shining light at them, and wont practice target shooting at the light?? if they like to fight, who knows what else they like. espesially if alcohol or drugs involved.
you better off using nvg than any light.

The stanley is a good choice if you are on a tight budget, want something small, and don't need longer than a 25 minute run time. Yes it will do 500 feet. The Northern tool 25MCB is a better option if you dont mind something that big.

The stanley hid would be okay I guess if you were gonna use it plugged into a cigarette lighter in your vehicle....mine only gets 25 minutes on the low setting on the battery.....but its bright as heck....the only flaw is the battery is too small to make it run for a respectable amount of time.

yes, the price is right and modification is well documented

if you can pick up a used POB or Amondo in good shape, that would be better

bogey out

Thanks for the replies. I was at Lowes yesterday and I had to see what all flashlights they had. I first seen some small lights nothing that I liked then I seen another side which had spotlights. I seen the Black&Decker for $29.99 I was wondering what do you guys think about it?

I like that one as well. Still not sure on which one to get.
I doubt runtime is an issue for you right? You just want to be able to walk out the door and shoot the light down there for short blasts? If that is what you are aiming for then the Stanley is really hard to beat. The Black and Decker would not be as good. I went to Lowes today and they had the Stanley sitting on the shelf for $29. I grabbed that real quick. Turns out the put the tags on it that was meant for the B+D.

I guess I'll be getting a Stanley. Whenever I come up with the money. I appreciate all of the replies. Thank you.

The Black&Decker V-2million is a decent spotlight, but I'm not sure how well it'll do at 500 ft. I'm guessing you're in an urban area, so you'll be fighting other lights? Mine is pretty strong out to 200ft, but that's as far as I've really shone it. The Stanley HID will probably do what you want, assuming you aren't going to trek out there to make the peace.

Take a look at cluson.co.uk.I own a smartlite sm126pc which ive had for about 3 years with no problems.Has a 1000m spot beam.Highly recommended as are all of there lites.

Either the Stanley HID or the Black and Decker incan should work in that application just fine. Since you're on a tight budget any regular 12V SLA spotlight will have to do.

The main problem about the Stanley is that I'm not sure if WalMart still has it, and the prices on eBay and stuff are close to or more then the price of the SunForce 25MCP

Amazon.com has the Stanley HID if you like it. Search on Amazon for "stanley hid" - lists for $69, free ship and probably no tax. Lowes also has them on the shelf in my area for $69. Something to check if you have Lowes stores in your area.

If you like the Sunforce, keep an eye on Ebay. Up until a few days ago Northern Tool was selling it there for $89 + ship, even though their Northern Tool website had it for $109 + ship at the same time. I see the eBay listing is now $109 + ship. Maybe they will list a few for $89 again every now and then.

I'd go for the Stanley because of its quicker warm-up time. The Sunforce wont be as fast.

I just got a catalog from Northern Tool in the mail this week and it also had the higher $109 price for the Sunforce HID spotlight. Thank goodness I got mine for the earlier $89 price after reading about it in this forum. lovecpf

I have a Stanley 2M and use it for harbor work 100'+ . It does the job nicely with a concentrated beam and seems to last quite a while between charges. The only problem I've had is a bad trigger, so far. Ed
