it really depends. it is possible that adding memory can give you extra startup time with BF2, but i think there are diminishing returns. what is the latency on your ram?

also, what kind of games are you playing? if they are mostly video intensive (which i think they are), the faster hard drive won't help it perform any better, it will help it load up faster if it loads from the hard drive. if it loads from the cd/dvd, then hard drive speed will have very minimal impact. i would say the bottleneck for games nowadays are the video cards, not the hard drives. getting a 10k or even a 15k will make everything in general be faster, but know that you will have to have a sata port or a scsi controller to use those faster hard drives. sata2 might be worth the wait...

from the looks of it, your video card is fairly recent too. are you having issues with your game? if so, i would first start with drivers and windows, then go to hardware issues. tweak the settings on your video card.

also, if you can, replace your memory with lower latency if yours isn't the lowest, that may garnish the most gains for you. faster hard drives are always nice, but again, the law of diminishing returns applies here too. the hard drive is overall the bottleneck with the computer, but with games, i think the video is moreso.

hope that helps...

I have no idea what the latency is..its OEM Dell so I am assuming not too good. I am guessing I have 2x512 in the 4 available slots. I am thinking about adding some Corsair Value Select 2x1GB

I am not having issues in the game, I play on the high settings with 0 lag. And that game has been called a vid card whore :) I was thinking adding ram and a faster HD would help map loading times which are about 30-45 seconds. (Loaded from HD I believe) and enable faster switching between game and other apps.

yes, getting a faster hard drive should help with that then, but is that necessary to cut down a few seconds? if you don't already, try installing and loading the game from a separate drive from your OS drive, see if that helps. i don't think more ram will help with map loading since it will be loading into ram, and it would only help if you were using so much ram at the time that you were paging back to the hard drive...

hm, cas latency of 4 seems a bit high, but honestly, i don't know too much about the ddr2 spec. for 'regular' ddr, most of it was 2.5, some of the better stuff was 2. i don't know how this would compared to ddr2 though, you may want to look into it.

if you have the funds, try going for a faster rpm hard drive, but the cost may not be justified for your returns. i personally appreciate the build quality of scsi over ata, when ata had 3 year warranties, scsi had 5, and even when they moved to 1 year, scsi still had five. now seagate and some other manufacturers are moving to 5 year warranties on some of their ata drives, i believe, but i still feel that scsi drives are built better. it could be in my head though.

Originally (in February 2002), my computer had this:

-Asus P4T-E
-Maxtor 120GB HDD
-Intel P4 1.9GHz
-SB Audigy Gamer
-D-Link Gigabit Ethernet
-DVD-ROM
-CD-RW
-0.5GB of RDRAM
-Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP (PVR)

Since "something" went "wrong" a couple years ago, it now has this:

-Abit KV8 Pro
-AMD Athlon64 2000+
-1GB PC3200 DDR
-Sony DRU-820A
-1x120GB HDD
-3x250GB HDD

Things that haven't changed:

-Envision 19" CRT
-ATi Radeon 8500LE
-MS Office Keyboard
-IBM Optical Navigator mouse
-Antec Soho case (sort of like this one, only the really old version)
