I'll re-read your post tonight.
One thing I wanted to mention is that I enjoy your almost dichotomous presentation. You seem to seek an answer and see what opposing sides have to say about the issue. Then you formulate your own theories that may or may not agree with a particular school of thought.
Downright refreshing.
I most definitely agree with good values taught at a young age causing reduced violent activity. A couple years ago in a grocery store a child was acting up in a large way. The mother finally did the circular spanking dance (we've all seen or experienced this one.) with the child. He was reduced to quiet blubbering. She turned to the 15 or 20 speechless shoppers. One guy began to clap and all the others followed suit. I think the applause was more punishment to the kid than the spanking.
