Hey there,

There is a vss 1 (v) 2 on ebay that the seller is saying is 450m cp and runs on 48 volts. I emailed him and he insisted that thats what it was, even though the name plate says vss 1 (v) 2. Any one run across one?

The VSS-1(V)1 uses a black IR filter which is used with IR veiwing devices. The black filter emits a glow which may be "visible" out to 100 meters.

The VSS-1(V)2 uses a pink IR filter which can be used with infra red veiwing and image intensifying devices . The pink filter emits a glow which may be visible from 800 to 1000 meters.

Short version, the "2s" have better range in IR mode due to a different IR filter.

Thank you, I understand the 2 vs 1, the question was, did the mil make a 48volt unit that puts out 450m CP?. The ebay item also state that it was made in the 90's.

No it is a 28 volt 150m cp it was load tested on 7/91 it clearly states this on the box.

I tried to tell the seller, But he was 100% sure, he says he has proof! I have yet to see it. Perhaps some one else should attempt a better explanation. It wouldn't make sense for the mil to upgrade an existing fixture to double the output. Stranger things have happened!

It has not happened I have pulled up the exact numbers off of the crate you are talking about I know the specs. Stop quoting/thinking some moron on ebay knows what he is talking about. The mil did upgrade it is called anvss-3a. Stop trying to tell the seller anything it is useless they are lots of items on ebay that are not what they say it would be an endless job.

Thanks,
I looked up the specs as well, I am not trying to change this guy, just wantd to know if what he was selling was for real.

As far as getting more from ebay, way over priced.

Do appreciate the help.

Something makes no sense here, if you know the specs then why would you ask if it is 450m cp and 48v when you know it isn't. Why would you need to know if it is for real if you have the specs? The specs tell you he is not for real!!!!!!

Oh yes now you are seeing my point! I never take anything for granted. Perhaps the mil did upgrade an existing fixture to go with newer tanks, do the new tanks run on 48 volts? ( I will google this tonight) Perhaps there where a limited run? Yes I know these lights very well, I have been runing them for the last 15 years. I have over 1500 hours logged on one unit alone.
In all honesty I do think the gentlman is incorrect. I certainly see and understand your point why bother. I ask you this; why would some one make this up?
It was just a simple question.

Thanks for your time and please have fun!

I guess you don't get my point, let me be clear YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME. There are lots of morons on ebay saying lots of stupid things. No tanks are not 48 volts, no this is not an upgrade YOU HAVE THE SPECS. Do you know how to read? Read the specs. Either you don't have the specs or you cannot read which is it.

Bill,

I am sorry that my post upsets you so. It was a simple question. No need to get nasty. As I am new to this forum, you have put a bad tast in my mouth.

Take care,

I apologize If you took my post wrong. Here's what I don't get please explain it to me. You say you have looked up the specs. The specs state that it is 28 volts 150ml cp. You then ask could this be 48v 450ml cp. I guees you just want someone to read the spec to you? Do you not see the difference? I am confused, the ebay pictures have a crate with the army numer on them, the specs are clear. Please what is your question?

Thanks,
Yes I can read the specs, The specs I have and have seen are dated no later than 1977. The units in question (my question) have a test date of 1991. Back to the top of the post, WHY would some one make up a different spec? This seller has good feed back, where is he getting his info? I sent him a copy of the PDF. He says his manual is different and has the advertiesd specs in it. Now what doesen't make sense here? Again, I am just trying to understand if there is are modified units out there. Are you 100% sure? Even if tanks still use 24v nominal as I think they still do, step up transformers do exist.

I don't wish to beat this to death. Mostlikely he is dead wrong.

Again thanks for your time and pointing out the obvious.

The number on the side of his crate is 6220-00-137-8289 the specification for that number are 28 volts 150 million cp. It is that simple. The serial number matches , it is that simple. They were tested at tobby hanna AF base on 7/91 just like the 4 lights I have. It is that simple. His manual is not different, he is in arizona I know exactly who it is and where they are, I bought a light out of the group that he has. It is that simple. There was an article in yesterday Financial times that did an investigation of ebay power sellers they checked 400 of them 56% of the auctions had misleading info for the description. another 20% were outright false info. It is that simple. I don't know how much more clear I can make this. If you spend your time trying to understand/correct people on ebay you will have time to do nothing else. It is that simple.
