My mom often goes walking around the evening with some friends, and it's usually dark by the time she gets back.
None of them are using flashlights, because they are probably used to either a big D-cell type light, or something thats not very usefull outdoors.
So i want to buy her something that she would carry with her, and with enough brightness to be usable, and around an hour of runtime at least on rechargeables.
I put this in the incan. forum, because i do believe it's superiour outdoor, and it's not just for finding your housekeys in the dark or anything like that.

I think your mom would be very happy with a high-quality LED light such as the Fenix L1D CE or L2D CE. These lights are small, very efficient, use readily available batteries (including rechargeables), and produce a good quality beam. They're certainly useful for more than finding your keys.

People gotta pimp Fenix's even in the incan forum..

If you're looking for something cheap, I got an Aztec I picked up at Big Lots for like a 1.50$. It uses 4 AA's in a battery carrier. I have a 3 cell krypton maglite bulb in it. Works great on either 4 AA alkalines or nimh rechargeables.

Something more expensive you could try an E2E with recharge batteries and a bulb from lumens factory. That might be a bit exotic though. Maybe a Steamlight Strion would be the ticket. About the size of a 6P and all you have to do is put it back on the charger when done.

A Pelican M9 is another option similiar to the streamlight, but a little larger. Might be a bit large for the purse. Then again, maybe not.

I got my mom a Surefire E2D defender. Great purse carry light for a number of reasons.

Any of the 2cell incan surefire lights are good options, but i want it to be rechargeable.
The streamlight strion seems like a good option, and if there's a good way to get the 2cell surefire's rechargeable (i don't live in the US, so any extra orders get the postage up by alot), thats fine aswell. But i like the fact that the strion is basicaly a complete package.

Does anyone know which battery goes in there? is it a standard size?

Princeon Tec Tec-40

rugged, inexpensive, AA batts

get Mom two sets of NiMH batts, a charger, and a couple spare bulbs

Mom will be the envy of all the evening walkers with this setup

+1 on the Princeton Tec Tec-40. With a 4-cell Mag xenon bulb, can use either nimh or alkaline.

+1 on the L1D CE. I can't really think of a handier sized, easy to use purse light for a better value.

Defusion, where does your mother go walking? Just around the neighborhood, at a nearby park, or farther afield? Also, is this walking for exercise, or shopping, or something else? How much light do you think she should have? Another consideration is how much ambient lighting is already in place.

Most ladies I know/see who just go for walks (recreational or exercise), don't usually carry their purses. If this is the case, I would get something really small, like maybe the Underwater Kinetics 2AAA pocket, plus NiMH batteries and charger. The light can be in a pocket or on a neck/wrist lanyard. In addition, I'd be sure to attach a Photon Freedom to her keychain as back-up (assuming that she has her keys with her). Not nearly as bright as some of the other suggestions, but how much light does she really need if no-one carries a light right now?

For an "upgrade," if you could consider LED, the Orb Raw or better yet, the new Orb Wee would be even nicer. Almost like jewelry!

+2 PT 40. Use nimh and a Mag 4 cell bulb for good brightness and dependability. Mom wouldn't want an overdriven bulb burning out on her during walks.

The PT 40 is also "mom friendly", being of medium size, easy to hold, and plastic (re: it didn't cost too much).

Hello Defusion,

The SureFire E1w wine light with a Lumens Factory HO-E1R lamp and a R-CR123 is an attractive and very usable light combination.
