The past weekend I did a small "abuse" test on a LF HO-M6R. It´s good to know if it will stand up to be abused before I use it in the real world.

I simply fired it up and threw my M6 out the door and on the street outside..

:poof:

Bulb smashed inside the KT-4...

Then I took a MN21 and did the same thing.
Threw it out my door...

Nothing happened. Still running...

So now I will stick to the original setup when I´m out and using it "for real"

Sorry, but your test doesn't mean anything. How the light lands can easily explain why one bulb broke and the other didn't.

You could try it again and reverse your results.

 You need to do 1000 tests with 1000 different bulbs of each type. Each time dropping it in a random way. This way the results will average themselves and give a more representative result.

But seriously, good job, you're taking one for the team. How is the M6 body holding up?

Interesting that you gave it "a shot" but like the others said, it really isn't representative of anything until you perform dozens of tests.

I'd love to see some pictures of your tossed M6 though....

I imagine that pavement tears them up in short order. I know it's hard on bicycle parts when I come screeching to a sliding wreck on it.

WOW! congratulations on your valor to deliberately damage your pricey M6 for a worthless test.

It was hardly a worthless test. That test proved to him that he can't count on LF bulbs in a situation that I'm guessing he's likely to encounter. Although I agree that 1 test is far from conclusive, spending the $30/bulb for more data is probably beyond his desire.

Some people actually need to count on their tools to work, the first time every time. Team Member clearly did not purchase his M6 to be a shelf queen and he has a need to evaluate his modifications in a situation they were likely to encounter.

The post degrades a supposedly good product with just as good a base as an MNXX bulb with no substantiation. The flashlight itself is shock resistant. Pictures of the broken bulb and damaged flashlight would probably add a little credibility. One tooth of the crenulated bezel from my M6 was damaged from a fall off a dinnertable, so there is probably a whole lot more damage to the light from throwing it on the street.

I have to agree that the test, while ballsey, tell us all nothing whatsoever about the LF bulbs. It's just too random, at least as described. You need a protocol for different, repeatable impacts to compare products.

not bashing LF.... i have had an EO-9 and an EO-4 stop dead in their tracks from either casual use or in the case of the EO-4 a minor fall from 3'.... this experience makes me question continued use of these bulbs. sure, team member has not gathered enough imperical evidence to support the notion that the LF HO-6R does not withstand abuse. nor has he created a quanitfiable criteria for "abuse" but, he may have need or use of the information on a personal use basis.
going out on a limb here but this may speak to the toughness of the M6 and surefire yet again. if he caused damage to the street with his surefire i'm guessing his tax dollars with more than cover the expense of the repairs.

I dropped my M3 from about 3' last night...and :poof:

Luckily I had a spare HO-M3 on hand...but I'm going to try my luck with the MN10 from now on and see how it holds up to minor abuse...

I mean it should be able to withstand a 3' drop. Or is that asking too much out of a "combat light?"

With an incan bulb, I think there is always a big element of good/bad luck with regard to filiment failure after a drop.

I know...I'm just fuming cuz apparently one of my AW protected cells also took a dump...which means I'll end up buying a new pair of cells...so it was about a $40-$50 dollar drop...:banghead:

Could it be that the drop damaged the cells which lead to the LF going :poof:?

Still would love to see some pics of that torn up M6. I'm curious how the body held up. :)
