Question about Quark Mini warm-whites

I am considering purchasing a new keychain light and would like to get a Quark Mini or a Preon 1. I've a few regular Quarks and have been quite happy with them.

1) Have the quality control issues with the threads on the mini-123 been resolved? I've read several posts here stating the threads were mismatched in size and caused reliability problems as a result. Otherwise I'll opt for the mini-AA or the Preon 1.

2) How does the tint compare to a NiteCore EZAAw? That is my current EDC (keychain light) and I'm very happy with the tint. Not blue or green like a lot of LED's but not yellow like and incandescent light. I would like to get a similar tint rather than something that might be more yellow rather than actually neutral.

Thanks in advance for any info...

Heinz.

Hi, no idea about the MiNI 123 threads, but..

Otherwise I'll opt for the mini-AA or the Preon 1
If you're looking for a warm white preon, it's a preon 2. Not a huge deal, you can get a preon 1 body for another $7 I think, but just thought I'd mention it.

If you are not after yellow then maybe the warm Preon would not work for you.
I just got a neutral TK20 and a neutral Quark Q3, the Quark is much warmer by quite a margin. I can imagine the WARM version is going to be even more to that side of the scale.

The XP-G's from 47's seem to be greenish on low currents, but only when compared to other lights.
On high I cant see green in my 123^3.
The R2 model is very white, no green at all.

Great for platypus spotting!

i own a Mini 123 neutral white (is that the same as a warm white?) love the tint, zero issues with mine so far.

You might actually be able to e-mail 4Sevens about this as they used to sell the Nitecore, so perhaps they can give you a better reference?

Because the neutral tints are warmer than the usual cool white tints they were originally referred to as neutral-warm white. They are not the same as true warm white.
The neutral tints I've seen so far are 5A, 5B, 5C. The EZAAw is 5B.
The WARMS Quarks are 7. As you can see from the chart they are way over on the yellow side.

A normal incandescent household bulb is 2700°K or 8 on the chart.
A film studio light is 3500°K or 6 on the chart.
So the WARMS Quarks are in the incandescent range.

So if the EZAAw is 5B, then it's far closer to neutral white, similar to the Quark Neutral white which is 5A.

The beam from my Quark 123 Neutral looks "pinkish" which is correct according to the chart (XP-E 5A). The beam from my L-Mini II Neutral looks "yellowish" which is also correct according to the chart (XR-E 5C). The WARM Quarks will be either 7A3 or 7B4, looking at the chart that would be an "orange to pink" -tint or an "orange to yellow" -tint. Cause I prefer the tint of my Quark 123 Neutral above the tint of my L-Mini II Neutral i'm hoping for the 7A3 emitter.

I just got my Quark Mini CR2 Mini Warm and I thought I'd post a comparison beamshot. I took the photo with my phone so no idea about exposure or f stop.

Quark Mini CR2 Mini Warm on left same light with the standard XP-G R5 on the right.

I have a Quark Mini 123 of about 3 months old. The thread play is bad and I have frequent misfires on brightness selection; mostly due to the excessive play. Don't know if they still have the propensity to be that way. That said, it's never left me without light - even though it may take more than one try to get the desired brightness level. (Not prevalent but also not rare.)

The Mini 123 is a great pocket carry but I would think the Preon would would be a better key chain carry. My [FONT=&quot]worth.

42- good representative pictures, received a couple of mini123 warms yesterday for my kids and took them out last night and compared them to a couple of cool white flashlights, the color rendition of foliage was better and not washed out. They'll be using them outdoors on night hikes with the Scouts, so low and medium are plenty with an AW rcr123a. High gets hot in a couple of minutes, but awesome for such a tiny light and a simple UI too.
To the OP:
1) No problems with the threads or the fit and finish, going to buy some more mini 123's and some Preons to give to friends. Read a review here on CPF where the Preon put out close to 300 lumens on either NiMH's or 10440's don't remember. I'm new here on CPF and don't know much, but plenty impressed with 4Sevens. If the mini doesn't work for you there is always the LiteFlux LF2XT, itp and others to consider.
2) Can't answer, don't have an EZ.

I got my warm quarks today and they are quite a bit warmer than any of my neutral tint lights. So much so that my M60WL almost looks cool white in comparison. All in all I like the the warm tint about even with neutral whites. I find the neutral whites are a bit more accurate with colors, but the warm tint really shows depth and contrast well. I'm now ever farther from considering any cool white lights again.

As far as the threads go I think the biggest problem with Quarks is not the threads, but simply that they need thicker o-rings. Maybe this weekend I'll look for some.
