Swiss Spotlight with Generator

reminds me of BVH's blackhawk locater....he had quite fun with that:naughty:

its HID though, designed to be on an aircraft:rolleyes:

What type of bulb do you think this uses??? Any idea how many lumens it would put out?

On a side note, have all of the short arc tank lights dried up?? It seems like a small, quiet Honda generator would be a good match for that light if you could invert it to the correct voltage.

That is not a self-energy-generating-spotlight, thats a spotlight hooked up to a generator.

Reminds me of the flying flashlight.

hmm

instead of such, I would purchase a good car spotlight and add something to be able to grip it.
Hella makes some with broad to pencil beam.
Can be run from any 12 V source.
Much cheaper than any of those things above

I have an L35. I wasn't considering this for something functional. I just thought it was interesting and if it was as bright as that short arc tank light I would jump on it just for the fun of it.

I have a similar-looking 2-cycle military surplus generator. It was built in the 1940's.

So, assuming this is a similar vintage, I seriously doubt the lamp is anything other than incandescent. With the generator being listed at 400W, the lamp wold be less, maybe 300W or so, which would be around 5000-6000 lumens.

Hmm, that is interesting. I have spent nearly that much on lights that didn't come with their own internal combustion engine ;).

How much is a 300W HID Bulb and ballast and do they even make them?? That would be make it worth the money IMO.

And there my friend is the reason electric cars haven't taken off!!! Batteries are expensive.

Don't forget it comes with it's own chair too.

Could be a carbon arc, the great grand pappy of today's HIDs.

Sure looks like the chromy looking top of a projector type lamp. Some of those are 300-400+ watts. Perhaps that is what they used. Easier than trying to miniaturize carbon arc rods :D
